Di Supreme Court for Nigeria on Thursday uphold di Court of Appeal decision wey nullify di Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention for Ibadan.

Three out of di five-man panel of judges bin give di ruling to nullify di convention, while two odas say di appeal get merit.

Di mata bin start as a result of di denial of Sule Lamido to purchase ticket to run for di post of di PDP national chairman.

E bin go court and di court order say make dem allow am to purchase form and take part in di election or make di convention no hold.

Judgement of di Supreme Court on PDP

Di Supreme Court say di appellant suppose obey di decision of di lower court and not go ahead wit di national convention.

According to di court, political parties na di vehicle through which politicians get to public office, hence dem get responsibility to obey court orders in deference to di rule of law.

"Di appellant no only disobey di orders of di court, di appellant bin go ahead to obtain anoda order from one court of coordinate jurisdiction in order to go ahead with dia convention, only to go to court afta to challenge di jurisdiction of di lower court. Dis na gross abuse of di process of di court

"Once party know about order of court, e dey bound to obey am," di court tok.

Dem say di conduct of di National convention of November 15 2025, dey null and void and dey hereby nulled.

"Dis court no go lend im machinery to any litigant wey abuse di process of di court.

"Dis appeal lack merit and e dey hereby dismissed. Parties go bear dia own costs," di court tok.

For di lead minority judgement wey Justice Haruna Simon Samani bin read, e maintan say di process of who dey run political party na di internal affairs of di party, and therefore e no dey within di jurisdiction of lower courts.

Dis position bin also dey supported by Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar, wey bin cite one earlier ruling of di Supreme Court wey tok say any mata wey no concern primary elections of political parties, no be pre election mata and therefore no dey justiciable.

Supreme Court second judgement on PDP

So di second mata na also about di order by Justice James Omotosho wey block di PDP from running dia national convention of November 15 2025 for Ibadan.

Di Supreme Court also, wit a 3-2 majority judgement, bin hold say di convention happun in disobedience to valid court order.

Na Justice Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme bin read di lead judgement and Justices Mohammed Lawal Garba and Jonah Stephen Adah agree to am.

Dis majority judgement, like di judgement from bifor, bin maintain say since Justice James Omotosho from di Federal High Court bin don give valid court judgement wia im block PDP from going to do dia planned convention, den dem suppose obey dat order.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme bin describe di court order from di Oyo State High Court wey PDP bin use run dia convention as "forum shopping" and "disgraceful".

She vex for some judges and lawyers wey dey use dia platform and services for politicians to take do forum shopping instead of dem to just obey valid court order.

But like di first judgment, Justices Haruna Samani and Abubakar Sadiq Umar, bin disagree wit di lead judgement.

Dem tanda dia ground say say even though dia disobedience of court orders dey bad, di mata of jurisdiction must first be cleared bicos, "jurisdiction na di live wire of any case".

Justice Umar wey bin read di lead minority judgement tok say di conduct of national conventions na inside mata of political party so di lower courts no dey get di jurisdiction ab initio to hear di mata.

Justice Umar say dis appeal don work and im go set aside di decision of di lower court.

Wetin dis judgement mean for PDP?

Di judgement mean say di authentic leaders of di Peoples Democratic Party na Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu as National Chairman and National Secretary wey dem bin elect for March 2026.

Di Mohammed-led leadership na di one di current Minister of di Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike dey support.

Ova 2,000 delegates from across di 36 states and di Federal Capital Territory (FCT) bin endorse Mohammed and Anyanwu and 19 oda members of di National Working Committee (NWC) of di party for dia own national convention for velodrome of di Moshood Abiola Stadium for Abuja, Nigeria capital.

You go remember say di High Court and di Court of Appeal bin declare di convention wey elect Kabiru Turaki leadership of di party for November 2025 null and void.

Meanwhile, di Supreme Court of Nigeria on Thursday set aside di Court of Appeal directive say make di Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) maintain status quo for ADC leadership wahala.

Di ADC appeal na from di David Mark faction, wey dey challenge di judgement of di Court of Appeal wey give order make parties maintain status quo for one internal leadership gbas-gbos for di party.

Na based on dis Court of Appeal judgement di Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec), bin withdraw dia recognition for oga David Mark as di ADC National Chairman and remove im name - plus di name of di National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola - from dia portal.

However, oga Mark insist say leadership wahala for political parties na internal affairs wey, according to Nigeria laws, no be mata for court to determine.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former govnors Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, Liyel Imoke and Aminu Tambuwal - wey also be former Speaker of di House of Representatives - na some of di big names for di ADC.
