Some of the biggest stars of film and animation were named Legends earlier this week, during a huge Disney event held in California in the US.

Fans from all over the world gathered at Disneyland in Anaheim for the three day event known as D23 - named after the year Walt Disney founded the entertainment company.

One of the biggest moments of the weekend was a glitzy star-studded ceremony where 11 new Disney Legends were named.

This is the company's highest honour, reserved for those who have made a lasting impact on the Walt Disney Company and includes actors, producers, animators, voice actors, singers and musicians.

Previous huge names included on the list have been Idina Menzel (Elsa in Frozen), Miley Cyrus and world renowned composer Hans Zimmer.

Read on to find out who was inducted as a Legend this year.

Star of Moana and Disney's Jungle Cruise Dwayne Johnson was one of the inductees into the exclusive club of Legends.

His friend and co-star Emily Blunt introduced him on stage and presented him with his award.

Johnson who is the voice of Maui in the animated film franchise Moana and plays him in the live action version, used his moment to pass on some advice he has received in his career.

"It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice," he said.

He reminded fans that trends may come and go, but "being good to people" is what really matters.

Anne Hathaway, who played Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries when she was just 17 years old, gave an emotional speech about how fortunate she feels to have built a career doing what she loves.

"I am here today because I'm one of the most insanely lucky people in the world."

She paid tribute to fellow Disney Legend Julie Andrews who was the original Mary Poppins. Andrews played Mia's grandmother - the Queen of Genovia - in the Princess Diaries.

However, she did say her two children were not that impressed with their mum's new "legendary" status, "but they are very excited to meet Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson!"

Alongside them, Lin Manuel Miranda was honoured for his huge part in multiple Disney films, including Encanto, Mufasa and Moana.

The multi-talented composer, actor and Broadway star did what he does best and wrote his speech in the form of a song, sung to the tune of A Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid.

He thanked the "human animators" for bringing his music to life. Many suspect this was a comment aimed at the use of AI animation in the film industry and how it could threaten an entire profession within entertainment.

He finished his speech saying he was "grateful that I'm, Part of your world".

Other talented Legends who you may not recognise but will know their work or voices were also celebrated.

Susan Egan, who was the voice of Meg in Hercules was added to the iconic list of names.

Eric Goldberg, the animator behind the Genie in Aladdin, among other iconic Disney characters was also celebrated for his more than 30 year career at Disney.

And Alan Tudyk who is the voice of many hilarious characters including The Duke of Weselton in Frozen, Heihei the chicken in Moana, and Valentino the goat from Wish was also presented with an award by Ginnifer Goodwin who plays Judy Hops in Zootopia.

Jerry Bruckheimer who is the creative brain behind huge movies such as the Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure franchises was also honoured.

One of the Imagineers, who are in charge of bringing the magic to life in the Disney parks, Kim Irvine also became a Legend.

Although you may not have heard of him, Bob Iger was arguably one of the most influential people being honoured at the ceremony.

He was the overall boss of Disney until earlier this year and the driving force behind bringing Disney+ to the market.

He also led the purchases of Marvel, Pixar and the Star Wars brands, helping Disney expand even further into the world of film and entertainment.
