Seymour Mace | Seymour Mace used to be a clown. In fact what he doesn't know about clowning isn't worth knowing. But he's put the grease paint, giant shoes and red nose behind him and is now forging himself a career as a different type of clown - a stand-up comedian."I never really considered stand-up as a kid as there was never any talk of it in school, " says Seymour. "Some of my heroes in life are people like Eric Morecambe, Tommy Cooper, Tony Hancock and when I step back and think that I'd doing the same job as Tommy Cooper, I think it's stunning." On stage Seymour put in an almost manic performance of borderline surreal observations - "Newcastle is famous for its big student population. There's only two of them but they're the size of King Kong". Off stage he's naturally funny. He once won a glass trophy for stand-up and I asked him if he still had it, "I think my Gran's got it. Because she likes polishing stuff and I don't". What do you want to do now? |
