    FT: Leinster 43-13 Sale

The scoreline and the ease with which Leinster saw the game out makes you forget the game was actually very tight at half-time.

It was 7-3 at the break and only 12-6 with half an hour to go.

But Sale lost two players to yellow cards and when Leinster hit their attacking stride they simply never looked like being able to respond in an attacking sense.

    FT: Leinster 43-13 Sale

Leinster captain and man of the match Dan Sheehan speaking to Premier Sports:

"It’s exactly where we want to be, it’s been a bit of a weird season with some ups and downs but at the end of the day we have a home semi-final we can get excited for.

"The crowd got us through that game and we'll need them again in a couple of weeks’ time.

"That first half was disappointing we were stuck in third gear for a while but the bench had a real impact and we got there in the end.

"It took us a while to break them down. We’ve had a lot of games we’ve had to grind out this season and we have a lot to work on."

    Jamie Osborne (con: Harry Byrne)

There's still time for one more to send the home fans happy!

With the man of the match announcement still ringing in his ears Dan Sheehan shows great pace at this stage of the contest to make the break from deep before finding Jamie Osborne who is tap-tackled before the line but has enough momentum to score!

It started from yet another Sale lost line-out.

    Leinster 36-13 Sale

Into the last few minutes now and Dan Sheehan has been named man of the match by the tv broadcaster Premier Sports.

His side can soon begin preparations for a semi-final against Toulon, who beat Glasgow earlier, in early May.

  6. Penalty: Leinster 36-13 Salepublished at 74 mins

    Harry Byrne

The hosts have a penalty in front of the posts and despite a lead of 20 points they decide to give it to Harry Byrne to kick over rather than go for another try.

Byrne giving his personal total a bit of a boost!

    Alex Wills (con: George Ford)

Sale have had precious little in the way of attacking play today with George Ford kicking out of hand an awful lot whenever they've had possession.

But they do get themselves a consolation try - their first of the game - with a slick bit of play.

Tom O'Flaherty makes the break and pops it back quickly allowing it to be moved wide to Alex Wills to dive over.

    Ford converts from the tee.

    Tommy O'Brien (con: Harry Byrne)

The bounce of the ball is against Sale now as well!

Harry Byrne stabs a cute little kick in behind, Sale have two covering players but they kind of get in each other's way and it bounces over them to the waiting Tommy O'Brien to dot down for Leinster's fifth.

    Leinster 26-6 Sale

Sale had hung in there very well in the first half but the yellow cards combined with repeatedly losing possession at the line-out gave Leinster a foot in the door and they have taken full advantage.

The hosts are looking much slicker now and are playing some great stuff.

Sale will keep fighting hard, we know they will, but they don't appear to have enough going forward to get back into it.

    Rieko Ioane (con: Harry Byrne)

    Leinster are in again!

A quickfire double and that will probably be enough for them to win it.

It's made by a brilliant catch by Hugo Keenan before the ball is moved wide to Dan Sheehan who passes outside to Rieko Ioane to cross.

All of a sudden it's a 20-point gap and we've not seen much from Sale to suggest they can bridge that.

  11. converted try

Converted try: Leinster 19-6 Salepublished at 53 mins

    Ryan Baird (con: Harry Byrne)

He could have scored one a short time ago but he does score this one!

Jack Conan does well to hold his line and draw Sale wing Tom O'Flaherty before releasing Ryan Baird who has enough pace and a step to get away from the wing's last-ditch tackle attempt.

Harry Byrne extends the lead out to 13.

    Leinster 12-6 Sale

Sale have lost three line-outs this half now.

They lost one just before the second Leinster try and it is undoing their stout defensive work.

Ethan Caine is their hooker today with Luke Cowan-Dickie and Nathan Jibulu both unavailable.

  13. Penalty: Leinster 12-6 Salepublished at 46 mins

    George Ford

Sale win a penalty and George Ford knocks it over to cut the deficit to six and they are back to 14 men again now.

    A busy little period there!

  14. Sin-bin: Si McIntyre (Sale)published at 44 mins

    Leinster 12-3 Sale

Sale will be temporarily down to 13 men as Si McIntyre is shown a yellow card for that high shot.

Dan du Preez is still off the pitch for them but will be back soon.

    Hugo Keenan

Hugo Keenan scores - but will it be checked for a forward pass in the build-up?

No, it stands and Leinster have their second and crucially some breathing space.

Harry Byrne's delayed pass made the space and Ryan Baird looked to be steaming in on his own but for some reason passes back inside to Keenan who has the easiest try he'll ever score.

The TMO confusion there came as we appear to be checking a high tackle by Sale's Si McIntyre rather than the try.

    Leinster 7-3 Sale

Sale have lost two line-outs this half already and are heaping unnecessary pressure on themselves.

They are down to 14 men still remember with number eight Dan du Preez still in the sin-bin.

    Leinster 7-3 Sale

Leinster's All Black Rieko Ioane looks to do it all by himself with a searing break before being chopped down just inside the 22.

But when the ball is recycled Sale's Jacques Vermeulen pounces with a vital turnover.

    Great defence from Sale.

    Leinster 7-3 Sale

I think the majority of viewers, certainly the neutrals, will hope we see a little bit more in the way of entertainment in the second half.

A few nerves around the Aviva possibly with Sale looking intent on spoiling the party.

  19. Half-timepublished at 18:23 BST

    Leinster 7-3 Sale

With the clock in the red at the end of the first half, George Ford tries a drop-goal but he's a long way out in these conditions and it never looks likely to go over the posts.

Leinster's Hugo Keenan touches down in-goal and that brings a fairly low key half to a close.

Underdogs Sale will be much the happier of the two sides being only four points behind at the break.

  20. Sin-bin: Dan du Preez (Sale)published at 36 mins

    Leinster 7-3 Sale

The TMO is just checking a possible deliberate knock-on by Sale number eight Dan du Preez.

On the replay it's the slightest of touches from the South African but it's enough to put Josh van der Flier off and he knocked on with plenty of green grass in front of him.

Because Du Preez went with one outstretched hand and is not making an attempt to catch it, the referee sends him to the sin-bin for ten minutes.

A blow for Sale having just got on the scoreboard.
