  1. Cool Clarkpublished at 20:36 BST

    Clark -6 (4)

    Nial Foster
BBC Sport NI at Shinnecock Hills

Wyndham Clark found the cart path at the fourth but showed the sort of calmness that wins U.S. Opens, draining a superb putt to save par.

A year ago, he made his mark on a locker room at Oakmont. This week at Shinnecock Hills, he’s looking far more composed.

Chasing the chance to etch his name onto the trophy for a second time, he’d be welcome to leave his mark in the Shinnecock locker room, too.

Preferably with a pen this time.

  2. Par for Fleetwood, bogey for Schauffelepublished at 20:35 BST

    Fleetwood E, Schauffele E (8)

Excellent from Tommy Fleetwood after finding the bunker off the eighth tee.

He's got himself out of trouble though and is able to roll in a steady par putt from four feet.

No such outcome for Xander Schauffele though as he ends up three-putting from 45 feet and coughs up a shot.

Tyrrell Hatton goes up into a tie for fifth as he moves four under for today with yet another birdie on the 16th.

The Englishman has not found the green from off the tee on the 17th though, so surely a fourth birdie in five holes is off the cards here.

  4. Burns' bunker brilliancepublished at 20:30 BST

    Burns -3, Mitchell -1 (7)

    Don't you dare!

Sam Burns takes a bold line at the par-three seventh. His ball carries the bunker and thinks about staying on the dancefloor before deciding to meander down the slope and into the trap.

Thump! Cracking bunker shot. Four feet for par. Rattles it in. Stays three back.

Keith Mitchell thought he'd made a 30-footer but it kisses the right edge and stays above ground. Six pars and a birdie for Mitchell so far. He ain't going anyway.

  5. 'Got away with one'published at 20:29 BST

    Clark -6 (4)

    Andrew Murray
Former European Tour winner on 5 Live

Well thats an amazing four. He didn't hit a shot - poor tee shot, horrible second, average third. He's got away with one.

When he won the previous US Open, he got it up and down from all over the place.

Is in the same vein here.

  6. Clark sinks it!published at 20:29 BST

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (4)

Wouldn't you just know it! Wyndham Clark takes his time and looks a bit twitchy, but he hits his putt straight and true and in she goes for a huge par.

That could've been so much worse with that second shot - he could hit one on another hole and easily make six, but that four could be massive come the end of the day.

Scottie Scheffler also makes a par but that four from Clark must have taken the air out of his tyres a bit as he'd have thought he was going to close the gap there.

  7. Lucky breakpublished at 20:25 BST

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (3)

Wyndham Clark gets a sizeable chunk of fortune as he's got a clean lie on a bare area of turf from a high traffic zone of fans. If he sprays it wide on a different hole with fescue surrounds that would've been 10 times worse.

He gets a clean contact on it and hits the green leaving 15 feet for his par, and with his putter this week....

  8. Bogey for Fleetwoodpublished at 20:24 BST

    Fleetwood E, Schauffele E (7)

This feels like an important par putt for Tommy Fleetwood at the seventh to stay somewhat in the mix.

He almost holed his bunker shot but instead has seven feet to navigate.

Urgh, he's missed it. That is a momentum sapper.

  9. Clark well widepublished at 20:21 BST

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (3)

Wyndham Clark and caddie David Pelekoudas talk about a "good process" after every chat. Well, the process on the fourth may have been good but the approach out of the bunker wasn't, as the ball balloons off to the right and even flies over the crowd and onto a buggy path.

Would've liked a shout of "fore" there from Clark as his ball flew towards the fans - who then scatter to try and crowd around the golf ball. Always makes me laugh when they do that.

  10. Burns nearly bins anotherpublished at 20:20 BST

    Burns -3 (6)

Danger man Sam Burns sensibly shoots away from the flag at the sixth, which is perched precariously close to a bunker.

He's left with a 35-footer and he gives it a good run! It comes up a couple of oscillations shy and he settles for par.

As they say over in the States, this boy can really roll his potato.

  11. Theegala double after eventful holepublished at 20:19 BST

    Theegala +1, Kim E (4)

After his trials and tribulations back down the fairway, Sahith Theegala runs up a double bogey on the fourth.

He'll be tightening his grip next time he visits the fescue...

  12. Birdie for Hattonpublished at 20:18 BST

    Hatton +1 (15)

Tyrrell Hatton currently ranks first for strokes gained courtesy of his short game.

And the Englishman shows why at the 15th, zipping in to eight feet and then dispatching the birdie putt to move back to three under for today after a bogey on the 14th.

  13. Postpublished at 20:16 BST

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (3)

Wyndham Clark got away with a few yesterday - but he also gutsied his way around. He played some supreme up-and-downs and some decent bunker shots too.

Can he do it again today? He probably can't with the pressure on so he doesn't need to miss many fairways.

  14. Fine Father's Day finish for Russellpublished at 20:16 BST

    Russell +7 (70)

    US OpenImage source, Getty Images

We had a lovely touch earlier on with 17-year-old amateur Miles Russell, as he switched caddies on the 18th hole - with his regular bagman handing over the bib to his dad!

So on Father's Day, dad Joe could accompany his teenage son, the second-youngest man to make the cut at the US Open since World War II, and walk up onto the 18th green as the youngest player in the field putted out to finish on a fine seven over.

It's been a superb performance by Russell, competing in the US Open before he's even started his college golf career! And that emotional moment on the last will no doubt be a great memory for both father and son.

  15. Theegala's club goes flying!published at 20:14 BST

    Theegala -1 (3)

    What have we just witnessed?!

Sahith Theegala is down deep in the fescue at the fourth. He gives it an almighty lash but forgets to hold on to his club!

His iron goes flying behind him and towards the gallery. It doesn't look like anyone got hurt, but he turns and apologises anyway. You certainly don't expect to be in harm's way when you're standing behind a player!

Joaquinn Niemann was hit with a two-shot penalty for petulantly tossing his club after a bad shot earlier this week, but I think the USGA will let Theegala off for that one.

    Wild scenes.

  16. Fleetwood makes par at 6published at 20:13 BST

    Fleetwood -1, Schauffele E (6)

    Tommy FleetwoodImage source, Getty Images

Fine effort from downtown at the seventh for Tommy Fleetwood.

It doesn't drop though and he'll have to be content with a par.

    Par too for Xander Schauffele.

  17. Pars for final pairpublished at 20:13 BST

    Clark -6, Scheffler E (3)

Scottie Scheffler does make a nine footer this time, to save his par on the third after he pushed a bit too hard with his second and ended up finding the bunker.

Wyndham Clark had a half chance for a birdie but the putt just wandered down by the side of the hole.

    Two pars.

It's a classic US Open day.

The golden rough frames these holes beautifully well and that wind, as it has done all week, is going to play a big part in deciding today.

Round at the Old Course for my 18th, St Andrews. Turn up. Get added to a group. Played with an American, a Canadian and a Swede. Greatest. Day. Ever. Sorry wife and kids.

    Tim, Bangor

Spent my 30th on the island of Molokai, getting up very early to watch Andy Murray win his Wimbledon semi-final. I later played the Ironwood Hills 9-holer atop the small island. I may as well have been playing tennis based on my scorecard.

    Baz, Aberdeen

Vegas for my 30th, helicopter to the Grand Canyon, Tyson Fury fight, party all night. Skint ever since. Worth it

  20. Morikawa makes latest birdiepublished at 20:07 BST

    M Fitzpatrick +3, Morikawa E (7)

A third birdie of the round for Collin Morikawa at the seventh thanks to a booming 30-foot putt.

It's only enough to put him back at level par for the tournament given the two bogeys he's thrown in there.

    But he's clinging on.
