  11. 'Antonelli in the right place to be nurtured'published at 23:13 GMT 1 November

    Damon Hill
1996 world champion on BBC Radio 5 Live in Mexico City

You need all these people around you. He is now a world champion, it's actually been done but they [the team] helped make him a world champion. They took him on and gave him all the advice and he is openminded enough to listen and learn, he still has that attitude which I think is brilliant, he is absolutely in the right place to be nurtured by this Mercedes team. Toto Wolff really understands how to go about doing it.

  12. 'First of many'published at 23:10 GMT 1 November

"That's him all over, there's just more to come, it's just the first chapter. We are going to have to have a plane party."

  14. 'We have to have some serious talks' - Hamiltonpublished at 23:03 GMT 1 November

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton who finished second at the Mexico City Grand Prix: "Firstly, look at this crowd. We have to acknowledge them. A huge congratulations to Kimi and the Mercedes team. It’s great to see them all up here celebrating their success. Youngest world champion ever, it’s pretty phenomenal, and I’m so grateful to be in the race to witness it.

On his race: "Tough day. I think we had the pace to win today, but it wasn’t meant to be and we’ll take it offline and figure out what we can do in the background.

“In the drivers’ briefing, we discussed as soon as you go off in Turn 1, you have to give the position back. Last year I got a 10-second penalty for that same move that he did. But ultimately, it was that that lost us the win today. I think we have to have some serious talks behind the scenes, for sure.

“But the good thing is the team are working really hard. We’ve really improved our car. It’s great to be here, and we were on the old engine this weekend as well. Good results, good points. Shame we didn’t get a win, but some you win, some you lose.

"I am hoping next year we have an engine to compete with them. This year they were flying past us on the straights through the year. We can fix that and keep this car, the base of it. I am relying on the team, I have 100% faith in them."

  15. 'It was tough' - Verstappenpublished at 22:59 GMT 1 November

Red Bull's Max Verstappen who won in Mexico: "It was very hectic out there today but the first start, already I think made the race for me. I just had a very good first lap, let's say it like that. And after that, yeah we had a bit of a different strategy, I do think we lacked a little bit of pace, but we just hung in there, made the right calls at the right time.

"Of course the penalty of Charles put us into the lead and then you could see that they were always staying with me. It was tough, I was sweating at the end to try and keep Lewis behind.

"As you know it is such a long run into Turn One and to pick your braking point there with the big bump in the middle of the track, I had to be quite careful, that is always a tradition in Turn One that there are two cars fighting for the lead.

On World Champion Kimi Antonelli: "It is incredible of course, what a season he has had. To do that also at such an age I think is just really impressive and it is amazing to see the whole team celebrating with him, his family is here as well so I am sure this is a very emotional day for him and I am very proud of him."

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli on becoming the youngest ever Formula 1 world champion: "We did it. We did it and without them I wouldn't be here; without Mercedes and without my family. So, I'm very grateful for this moment and it's one that will live forever and I just - I'm speechless. I'm trying to process what has just happened."

On getting to share the podium with two of F1's greatest drivers: "You know, it's been an incredible season and to share this podium with Max and Lewis is truly incredible and I'm looking forward to some more battles in the future."

On whether he felt nervous this weekend: "This weekend, I did feel a bit more tense, but yeah, I'm just happy that we got it done and now we can enjoy the rest of the season."

'Nessun dorma' is being blasted out of the speakers in Mexico, and now Kimi Antonelli's winning Mercedes is being raised up to the podium.

Nico Rosberg is back again, leading the youngest to the front of the crowd to do another interview.

It's a special moment, says Antonelli, "one that we'll remember forever".

He's then reminded he's the first Italian champion since Alberto Ascari in 1953, so he gives the fans some words in his native language.

The atmosphere is electric at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli are handed their trophies.

The champagne is out, so get it popping! Antonelli is soaked through and has tears in his eyes. Hamilton gives him a big hug, as he finally gets his hold of an Italian flag.

And now Verstappen and Hamilton left up the 20-year-old so the Mexican crowd can show their appreciation.

'Grande, Kimi!' read the Mercedes signs. The 20-year-old comes onto the podium first, before race winner Max Verstappen. This is the Dutchman's six win at the Mexico City Grand Prix, and it takes him above Lewis Hamilton by two points and into second in the drivers' standings.

  20. Postpublished at 22:41 GMT 1 November

It's always great when Nico Rosberg is on post-race interviews. The 2016 champion ask his former Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton about his opening-lap scrap with Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc. "We need to have some serious talks behind the scenes," says the seven-time title winner.

The top three have reached the cooldown room as the music booms outside. Hamilton says to Kimi Antonelli he hopes they can have some battles next season.

What was your greatest achievement at age 20? For Antonelli, his is surpassing four-time champ Sebastian Vettel by three years to become the youngest title winner in Formula 1 history. Not too shabby.
