  1. Report: Lindblad crashes as Antonelli fastest in Madrid

    British rookie Arvid Lindblad crashed his Racing Bulls in Friday practice at the Spanish Grand Prix shortly after setting an impressive fourth fastest time.

    The 19-year-old lost control into Turn 13, and slid sideways into the wall, damaging his front and rear suspension and breaking his front wing.

    Lindblad ended the session fourth fastest, just 0.228 seconds behind pace-setter Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes in Madrid.

    Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were second and third fastest, just over 0.1secs behind Antonelli.

    Antonelli's team-mate George Russell, who trails the Italian by 66 points in the championship, was fifth fastest ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen and McLaren's Oscar Piastri.

    World champion Lando Norris did not set a time in his McLaren because of a gearbox problem.

  2. Join is for FP3 from 11:15 BST on Saturday

    The Madring has come through its first test on Friday, with just one red-flag period in second practice. The Racing Bulls mechanics will be working hard to get Arvid Lindblad back up and running for third practice tomorrow, while McLaren will hoping Lando Norris doesn't miss out on any more valuable track time before the all-important qualifying session.

    Mercedes are looking fast in Madrid already, topping both sessions on today. But Ferrari aren't too far behind, and with the walls so close here, anything can happen in a one-lap shootout.

    Friday is complete in Madrid, with only one red flag making an appearance across the two practice sessions.

    Championship leader Kimi Antonelli finishes top of the pile in second practice with a time of 1:33.662, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc just behind the italian Mercedes driver, 0.113 seconds off the pace.

  7. The session is slipping away from Lando Norris. The defending world champion didn't even get a time on the board before his gearbox hit a problem, and McLaren have been busy working on his car ever since.

  8. Fernando Alonso gives a big thumbs up to a fellow driver at the banked La Monumental. That digit isn't a friendly one, though, as the Aston Martin driver is blocked by another competitor.

    Charles Leclerc is also hindered by the Cadillac of Sergio Perez, but it does seem like the Mexican was trying to get out of the way of the Ferrari man.

    Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri needs the run-off area - there's not much of it at the Madring - to turn his McLaren around after running wide at Turn 7.

  9. Where are the overtaking opportunities?

    Certainly into Turn One. You have got the overtake activation. which is pretty much on the exit of Turn 22 - the final corner. If you are brave enough, and it will be difficult, you could throw one down the inside into Turn Five. Then pretty much through that middle sector, from Turn Seven into Turn 17, it's hard to overtake. If you've got the grip, you could throw one down the inside into 22.

  11. Max Verstappen is sixth on the timing screen but the Dutchman isn't happy with his Red Bull steering, saying: "My steering suddenly feels heavier". Yuki Tsunoda for sister team Racing Bulls has got his power steering back after problems in FP1, but will this be a theme for both teams during the Madrid weekend?

    Kimi Antonelli is quickest of the bunch and has now switched back to the medium compound for some long runs.

  12. Cars back out on track

    Arvid Lindblad's car has been recovered, so the remaining drivers are heading back out on track for final 11 monutes of this second session.

    Unfortunately, Lando Norris isn't one of them. The world champion is still stuck in the garage, his McLaren being worked on after earlier gearbox issues.

  13. Pit exit closed

    Just before Arvid Lindblad's off, Liam Lawson also had a twitch in the Red Bull, brushing the wall towards the end of the lap at Turn 21. "I touched the wall on the left side. I just had no rear grip," Lawson tells his engineer.

    He came out of 12, the banked corner, and lost it quite early on in the corner. He looked a little bit shaken - it was a heavy impact into the barrier. He might feel that tomorrow.

    This probably won't be a long stoppage, but the Racing Bulls mechanics will have a fairly big job on their hands tonight when that beaten-up car makes its way back to the garage. The main thing is Arvid Lindblad is OK and is heading back to base.

    Lindblad hits wall

    The red flag is waved and Arvid Lindblad is safely climbing out of his stricken Racing Bulls. "I'm really sorry," he says "I lost it super-early."

    The 19-year-old rookie lost the rear of he car and smashed into the wall down at Turn 13.

    George Russell takes another crack at this technical Madrid circuit but the Briton stays in fifth place, 0.337 seconds off the pace of his team-mate Kimi Antonelli.

    Arvid Lindblad is holding firm in fourth spot, but now there's a yellow flag out - and it's for the Racing Bulls rookie!

  18. World champion Lando Norris can only watch on as the rest of field collect valuable data and laps on the new Madring circuit.

    Lewis Hamilton is not having the best day when it comes to impeding. The Ferrari driver finds himself in the way of Yuki Tsunoda's Racing Bulls. "Ah, what is this guy doing?!" says the Japanese racer, but Hamilton does hold his hand up and say sorry straight away.

  19. Antonelli quickest on soft tyre

    We haven't found out what was bashing Oscar Piastri's feet in first practice, but for now, the Australian moves up to fourth with his opening lap on the soft tyre.

    Red Bull's Max Verstappen shifts Piastri down to fifth, while Charles Leclerc puts his Ferrari quickest.

    Arvid Lindblad is running in the top five in the Racing Bulls - that's a great lap by the British rookie - but it's Kimi Antonelli who finds the pace once again. The championship leader clocks a 1:33.662, which is 0.149 seconds faster than Lewis Hamilton, who has just gone second.

  20. The green Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso has finally made an appearance in second practice, which the Spaniard has joined the rest of the field on the medium tyre.

    While Alonso puts the laps in on the yellow rubber, others are starting to turn red. The top eight on the timesheets have all bolted on the soft compound with 33 minutes left in the session.
