There is an undeniably positive, upbeat vibe around Celtic Park this evening. The music is pumping inside and outside the ground, smiling faces the norm as the faithful flock to their place of football worship.

Perhaps that shouldn't be a surprise given the fact they are the league and cup double winners from last season.

But given the recent rancour between the Celtic fans and the board, this outbreak of harmony should not be underestimated.

Speaking to some Celtic fans on the way in here, the spending of large sums on new signings Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran has undoubtedly helped generate a feel-good factor. They both start tonight.

That feel-good factor could alter slightly in the next few days if Alistair Johnston and Arne Engels end up joining Everton and West Ham respectively. Those are ongoing issues, both players start for Celtic tonight.

Much will depend on who Celtic bring in to replace these players, if or when they depart.

First up tonight victory required over a Dundee side that gave Celtic problems last season.

Results took priority for Martin O'Neill last term as Celtic attempted to string wins together to claw back the deficit at the summit.

However, after a full pre-season, fans will be expecting more in terms of performance level.

O'Neill is not one to do much on-field training and trusts his coaches to handle many of those duties, but he has stressed he wants his team to be flexible and has hinted at deploying Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran together up front in a departure from Celtic's favoured 4-3-3 formation.

Former Hertha Berlin assistant Mark Fotheringham is inspired by high-intensity German football, while ex-Hibernian manager Shaun Maloney is known to be something of a football purist.

It will be intriguing to see how that dynamic works after a summer's worth of work, while the addition of set-piece specialist Ross Grant from Hearts highlights how Celtic are looking to place greater emphasis on their dead-ball output.

Celtic had no easy game against Dundee last season.

In their first encounter of the 2025-26 campaign, Steven Pressley's side won at Dens Park.

After that match, Brendan Rodgers started talking about Honda Civics and Ferraris. Feels like a lifetime ago.

There were then three narrow wins for Celtic, all by a single goal, including an extra-time victory in the Scottish Cup.

Celtic's wage bill and financial outlay on transfer fees in recent years point towards money being spent, but perhaps not being spent wisely.

However, the signings of both Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh come with a reported combined cost of about £15m and suggest a quality-over-quantity approach.

Duran has impressed in pre-season after scoring five of his 15 goals for Qarabag last term in the Champions League. Hogh netted the same number in the same tournament as Bodo/Glimt defied the odds to reach the last 16.

Overall for Bodo/Glimt, the Denmark striker - who has scored once in four caps for his country - has averaged a goal every other game.

His underlying data and touchmaps suggest he is a penalty-box striker who has thrived in a fantastically well-coached system under Kjetil Knutsen.

Martin O'Neill and his staff will back themselves to provide a platform for that success to be replicated in Scotland by their new big-money signing, whose CV shows he is capable of delivering at the highest level.

Earlier today, Celtic learned their Champions League play-off fate.

They have been drawn against Austrian champions LASK and will play at home in the first leg on 18/19 August, with the return game the following week.

LASK won their domestic title for the second time last season - their first since 1965 - and, like Martin O'Neill's Celtic, qualified directly for the play-off round.

Dundee haven't won their opening match in any of their past six Premiership campaigns since a 3-1 victory over Ross County in 2016-17.

They have lost 23 of their past 25 away games at Celtic in all competitions since a 2-0 win in May 2001 under Ivano Bonetti.

Meanwhile, Celtic have won 23 of the past 24 occasions they have played at home on matchday one of a league season.

And they have never lost in seven previous instances of facing Dundee on the opening day of a league season.

Dundee head coach Steven Pressley tells BBC Scotland: "We're in a transitional moment. I've been public on this, we've lost a lot of key players from last season. We've found it challenging getting personnel in.

"We're pleased with our recruitment thus far, but we're probably four players short of having a complete squad.

"[Yan] Dhanda, [Cameron] Congreve, [Joe] Westley, Ethan Hamilton - all came in late last season. That's the harsh reality. We understand where we are in the food chain. Sometimes we need to show a little bit of patience.

"There's people within the media tipping us for relegation. We're the bookies' favourites. We're playing a team who haven't lost a home league fixture on the opening day for 76 years. That shows the enormity of the task in hand."

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill tells BBC Scotland: "I think [Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran] are really good players. Kasper has just arrived, at least Duran has played a number of games for us.

"[Duran's] favourite position is up alongside the main striker and during the course of the season, that's where we hope to play him.

"It would have been nice if Kasper had come in a bit sooner, but he's a fine footballer and hopefully he'll adjust.

"There have been offers put in [for Alistair Johnston and Arne Engels], and I'm not wildly surprised to be honest.

"They want to play and that's the most important thing. Alistair gets on with his business, Arne is the same. I think they are ready for the game.

"The games I was involved in with last season [against Dundee] were extremely difficult. I expect a similar situation again."

Steven Pressley makes four changes to the Dundee side that secured progression to the League Cup knockouts by defeating lower-league Clyde last time out.

Goalkeeper Owen Goodman comes in for his debut, while Owen Bevan and summer signing Idris Odutayo come into the defence.

The final switch sees Joe Wesley start in attack with Simon Murray in an attacking looking team.
