Taken down on his biceps area, it was the right call by the referee.

  2. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 45 mins

    Plymouth 0-0 Exeter

Bim Pepple brings down an arrowed swerving cross from the left from Xavie Amaechi and bundles the ball into the net past Jack Bycroft, but he's used his bicep to bring the ball under his spell and the whistle had long gone.

ONE added minute at the end of the half.

    Plymouth 0-0 Exeter

Reece Cole's long throw from the Exeter right is not great but it's worked back to him to whip in a much better low cross, which Luca Woodhouse cleverly flicks on at the near post but it rolls across goal without a touch from anyone.

Plymouth have been slightly on top, they have created more chances without having finished one yet.

Exeter have held their own, been pretty solid, the longer the game goes on without Plymouth scoring, the frustration will grow and it plays into City's chances.

    Plymouth 0-0 Exeter

Ronan Curtis gets his head on the end of the corner but it flicks off a defender and loops behind for another, which he takes from the left.

It's cleared to Harvey White 25 yards out but his slashing volley as he dropped away flies well wide of target.

    Plymouth 0-0 Exeter

The long legs of Malachi Boateng get to the ball an instant before Jake Doyle-Hayes who clatters into him and Argyle have a dangerous free-kick just outside the box.

Xavier Amaechi whips it to the back post where Boateng clips it back in but it goes behind for a corner, not that Exeter agree.

Argyle have got to stick to their task, I am sure the opportunities will then come.

Perhaps to be expected at this stage of the season but the slickness of the play from the opening 10 minutes has definitely disappeared and a lot more errors are creeping in as we head towards half time.

The referee has been really hot on any yardage being gained on throw ins.

Always an interesting point first game of the season to see what directives the referees have been given.

Plymouth's Alex Hartridge gets an, er, warm reception from the away fans as he heads in front of them to take a long throw from the left.

Ref Dean Whitestone is called across and it appears something has been thrown onto the pitch - presumably in the direction of the former Grecian Hartridge.

    Shame.

The throw eventually comes in and is flicked goalward but Jack Bycroft is able to plunge onto the ball.

Smart save from Jack Bycroft as Bim Pepple is given too much space to turn and let fly with a low shot from the left of the area but the keeper gets down low to his left to parry the ball to safety.

Sure they're focused on the pitch but if anyone wanted to take a perfect Golden Hour photo for 'the gram' then Home Park is a perfect setting right now, bathed in a warm pink glow from the sunset.

Jack Bycroft is alert to the danger and races out of his box to hack clear a long ball aimed towards Bim Pepple who has been everywhere in the opening half-hour.

  13. CLOSE!published at 27 mins

    Plymouth 0-0 Exeter

Alex Hartridge bundles into the back of Exeter's Andrew Oluwabori and concedes a free-kick not far from the Argyle area.

Reece Cole curls in from the right but Harvey White clears his lines, only for the ball to be worked back in and Charlie Cummins to end some head tennis with some nice chest control and a lashed volley narrowly over the bar from an angle.

There is something majorly refreshing about watching the Carabao Cup round one on TV after the World Cup. Good old-fashioned rivalry. No VAR. No hydration breaks. Game is flowing better. I've missed this.

Exeter spring straight down the other end and Andrew Oluwabori again impresses out wide, though Jayden Wareham is just unable to get a touch on the low cross at the near post as he slides in.

Best opening for the Grecians. however...

  17. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Plymouth 0-0 Exeter

We have a hydration break after 21 minutes... it's for Exeter boss Matt Taylor only, at this stage, however.

He'll have nearly spit the water out as Exeter twice fail to clear their lines in their own box and Bim Pepple's low cross from the left touchline finds a way through to Ronan Curtis at the back post but he can only scuff his shot tamely at keeper Jack Bycroft.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 19 mins

    Commentator's curse.

Exeter's Charlie Cummins has his name taken for a rather wild lunge at Malachi Boateng in midfield.

Exeter have ridden the storm quite well.

Plymouth are more comfortable on the ball, they have had more possession.
