But, at home to Paris FC, Barca fell behind in the fifth minute thanks to a goal from Evelyne Viens.

However, normal service has been quickly restored, with Barcelona scoring four in the first half to lead 4-1.

Elsewhere in the League Cup, there have been wins for Crystal Palace, Everton, Liverpool and Aston Villa.

The match between Tottenham and West Ham has gone to penalties, while the clashes involving Leicester-London City and Brighton-Charlton are in the second half. Goalless at Leicester, with Brighton two goals up.

When Chelsea went to Manchester United and won 5-0, there was a lot of concern about United's new boss Eva Olid and their lack of shots and attacking threat..

Fast forward 10 days, and United were unfortunate to only draw at Arsenal and have just demolished WSL 2 side Sheffield United 9-1 in the new iteration of the League Cup.

Teenager Mared Griffiths scored a hat-trick, Germany striker Lea Schuller and summer signing Rebecca Bernal both bagged doubles, while England's Maya le Tissier and Ella Toone along with young defender Jess Simpson also got on the scoresheet.

Looks like they've found their shooting boots.

It has been a really good game. Both teams will be happy going in. Perhaps Sonia Bompastor [will be] asking a little bit more from her players in terms of rotations up top and can they exploit those channels, particularly down their left-hand side.

Chelsea lead at the break after a stunning 25-yard strike from Wieke Kaptein.

But the Austrians have had chances to equalise so this one is not done just yet.

You have to admire this Austria Vienna team who have come with the intention to play football against Chelsea.

They have been excellent at the start and end of this first half and are arguably unlucky to be 1-0 down.

It's an absolutely brilliant run. It's poor defending, that is not so far away... it's these moments in the game that will lift these teams. I think [Austria Vienna boss] Stefan Kenesei going into this half-time will be pretty happy with his team.

Austria Vienna still fancy getting something from this. Louise Schoffel strikes across goal and Livia Peng is definitely worried as she flings herself at the ball.

But the effort is just wide of the post and Chelsea stay in front.

What Chelsea don't want to do is take their foot off the gas like we've seen so many times.

Melvine Malard tries to twist and turn on the edge of the Austria Vienna penalty area, only for Carina Wenninger to make a vital interception.

Chance for Austria Vienna, from a well-worked short corner. A cross comes in, unconvincing goalkeeping from Livia Peng, who fumbles the ball and it drops to Virginia Kirchberger.

She is falling backwards and has a near open goal to aim at, but can only shoot over the top. A warning to Chelsea that more work is needed.

Am expecting many more puns to be on the bill.

Melvine Malard is eyeing up a goal on her first Chelsea start. Her France team-mate Sandy Baltimore sets up Malard, who opts to curl it at the far post, but she doesn't get enough whip on the ball and wide it goes.

Alyssa Thompson is quick, we know that but those spaces down the channels are wide open. That's exactly where she will be dangerous. She had every right to go for the shot there.

Almost brilliant from Alyssa Thompson. She gets past Tatjana Weiss with ease down the right flank, getting into the penalty area. She shoots for the far post, but fires just wide.

Soon after, Melvine Malard heads just off target.

There are many more goals for the taking here for Chelsea.

That will be a concern for Chelsea as star midfielder Keira Walsh heads straight down the tunnel after signalling that she wanted to come off.

It is not yet clear how serious the issue is, but Chelsea face Arsenal in the Women's Super League on Sunday.

It could have been two.

Austria Vienna just can't cope with the pace and trickery of Alyssa Thompson and she runs at the away defence, before setting up Sjoeke Nusken.

The Germany international could have gone for goal herself, but instead tries to find team-mate Sandy Baltimore, but the final ball is not great and Austria Vienna are able to clear.
