Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister, speaking to TNT Sports: "It was a good comeback.
"I think the first half was really good. We conceded a goal because we were not ready, and we did not defend well, other than it was a good first half.
"The beginning of the second half was really good. We managed to score the second goal, which is good.
"Overall, it was a good performance. Now we have to think about the next one.
"Before the game we spoke about the beginning of the first half and second half. I liked the mentality. I think we showed desire today. We got the fans behind us and that's really important when you play at Anfield. A positive step for us."
On the goal boosting his chances of a new contract: "I don't know - we will see."

On Alexis Mac Allister...
I thought his performance tonight was outstanding. Let your football do the talking.
Consistency, top performance, show your experience. Show you're a top international. This club will reward you.

Of all the players to score 10 or more Champions League goals, Marcos Llorente is the only one to score at least 50% against a specific opponent (5/10 vs Liverpool).

Coming off the back of a Odegaard's season last year with the frustration, when didn't hit the heights that we expected, he has started this season really well.
At his best, Odegaard makes Arsenal look much more competitive - and they are probably still the team to beat in the Premier League.
Naples is a tough place to go and to win 1-0 away from home, he [Arteta] will be delighted with that.

Dominik Szoboszlai has 10 goal involvements in the Champions League since the start of last season (six goals, four assists), double that of any other player for Liverpool.

There were 29 passes in the build-up to Arsenal’s winner, their second-most on record (since 2003-04) for a Champions League goal (33 for Lucas Perez’s second at Basel in December 2016).

Speaking of Ferran Torres, he became the first player to score a hat-trick on their Champions League debut for a side since Robert Lewandowksi for Barcelona against Viktoria Plzen in September 2022.
Ousmane Dembele became the third PSG to score two goals and provide two assists in a Champions League game, after Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
Dembele was involved in four goals in a Champions League game for the second time, after one goal and three assists for Borussia Dortmund against Legia Warsaw in November 2016.

The first was Barcelona's Gabriel Jesus and the second was PSG's Ferran Torres.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to TNT Sports: "Fully deserved three points. The performance probably doesn't reflect the result, the team was superb. We showed quality in a lot of moments to break them down and it was a shame because we missed so many great chances. On any other day the result would be different."
On captain Martin Odegaard: "Martin is contributing with goals that are impacting results which is what we want from our attacking players, being decisive and certainly he was again today."
"We should have done it in a different way because of the amount of chances we created.

Arsenal’s 26 shots was their most on record (since 2003-04) in a single Champions League match, and also the most Napoli have faced in that time.

I get what Paul [Robinson] is saying. Mac Allister has two years left and clubs generally don't let you go beyond that but you have to earn the right. His performances last season were not to the level you expect from him.
He looks a lot fresher after coming back from the World Cup. At the back end of last season, it felt like he was preparing for the World Cup and his performances took a dip.
What a way to go and back up the statement he made. It was a lovely strike with brilliant technique
In the Carabao Cup tonight, Chelsea beat Leeds 6-3 in a very entertaining third-round tie.
There were doubles for Cole Palmer and Danny Welbeck.

Finally from Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola, speaking to TNT Sports about possibly injuries: "No, just cramps, especially with Bradley.
"We are kind of rushing him a little bit. We wanted him there, but at the end we decided to say give us what you have then that's the most he has. Let's see how they recover for the next one."
On the crowd: "I was enjoying it. They're a very good team. Technically, in the middle, lovely players. It is not easy to press those players as they have quality.
"They have been playing together forever. We find another comeback after Forest, after Newcastle. We still have this thing to improve in the beginning of the games, but I am happy as we have shown some character.
"This is the Champions League, you don't have easy games."
FT: Liverpool 2-1 Atletico Madrid
Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola, speaking to TNT Sports: "Difficult to ask for more. I think we have shown big character, especially the players after a difficult start.
"I loved it - the atmosphere has been incredible and I feel lucky to experience it. I think I have to take blame from the beginning because they surprised me a little bit tactically they played a five at the back - a 5-3-2. We expected something different and waited to correct it. After half-time, we had a much better game, we pressed better, and I think we have been a better team."
On Alexis Mac Allister: Yes, lovely goal for him and from Dominik [Szoboszlai]. They ran a lot. Alexis has been vert smart - I think it was a very cheap first yellow. They were putting pressure to find the second one. He is a smart player and he could survive that."

Former Tottenham and Leeds goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live
It was all about Mac Allister coming in to the game with what he said in the press conference. He has still got two years left on his contract which I found quite strange. It's not the kind of thing you do, openly ask for a new contract.
You let your football do the talking, you go out there and play better than you did last season because the level he played at tonight, he didn't reach last season. I thought he was poor at times last season and hadn't earned a new contract.
He had a good engine tonight and took his goal really well. It was always going to be about him but it's now all positive. That is how you go about getting a new contract.

Everything runs through Martin Odegaard.
He can stand still and find space. He is at the peak of his powers and it is beautiful to watch.
You can't help but love watching him play his football.

Viking are yet to win an away game in major European competition (P24 D4 L20). Only Glentoran have played more on the road without winning any (29).

Barcelona’s Gabriel Jesus became the fifth different player to score on his Champions League debut for three different clubs after Fernando Morientes (four clubs), Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Javier Saviola and Erling Haaland.
All three of Jesus' debut goals have come against Dutch sides - including Feyenoord twice.
Image source, Getty ImagesAlexis Mac Allister scored an emphatic winner as Liverpool began their Champions League campaign with a win over Atletico Madrid at Anfield.
Dominik Szoboszlai levelled for Liverpool after Marcos Llorente had initially given Atletico the lead before Mac Allister fired in from outside the box to give Andoni Iraola his first win at home for Liverpool and his first Champions League victory as manager.
Mac Allister had dominated the pre-match headlines after his candid press conference on Tuesday, in which the Argentinian said he was "sad" that Liverpool did not offer him a new contract over the summer. But the 27-year-old, who is contracted at Anfield until 2028, did his talking on the pitch on Wednesday with a superb left-footed strike that gave Jan Oblak no chance.
With two draws and a win in the Premier League, Liverpool remain unbeaten under Iraola but for the third time in four games, they conceded first. Milos Kerkez failed to track Llorente, who got on the end of Julian Alvarez's ball and finished past Alisson to score at Anfield again.
Llorente named his dog "Anfield" after scoring twice against Liverpool in 2020 when Diego Simeone's side knocked them out of the Champions League. Of Llorente's 10 Champions League goals, five have now remarkably come at Liverpool's Merseyside home.
Alisson did well to deny Alvarez - who was making his first Atletico start of the season after failing to get his desired move to Barcelona - from distance and Liverpool levelled before the break after Kerkez did brilliantly to win the ball back and Ronald Araujo played a smart back-heel to tee up Szobozlai, who finished well.
Shortly after half-time, Bradley Barcola - making his first Liverpool start since his £123m move from Paris St-Germain - missed a glorious opportunity when he fired wide but a minute later, Mac Allister got the winner when he got on the end of a loose ball and rifled home in front of the Kop.
There was a slight scare for Liverpool when Barcola went down with cramp and the Frenchman had to be replaced on the hour mark but Iraola's side held on for a crucial three points.
Liverpool's next game in the Champions League is away to LASK on October 14.
What do BBC Sport's player ratings mean?
Mac Allister 'sad' at no Liverpool contract offer
Alisson Becker: Well beaten for Llorente's goal but made a good save to deny Alvarez from distance and another stop to keep him out in the second-half. 6
Ronald Araujo: Retained his place at right-back after impressing against Ipswich. Battled well, with one particular press that woke Anfield up. Superb back-heel assist for Dominik Szoboszlai's equaliser. 7
Jeremy Jacquet: Impressive again at centre-half and increasingly looking like a player that could be part of Liverpool's backline for years to come. 6
Virgil van Dijk: Another commanding display at the back. Was furious after Milos Kerkez failed to track Llorente for Atletico's goal. 6
Milos Kerkez: Really poor defending for Llorente's goal and struggled in the first-half but deserves credit for showing great determination to win the ball back just before Szoboszlai's equaliser. 6
Alexis Mac Allister: All eyes on the Argentinian after his press conference on Tuesday but did his talking on the pitch by scoring an absolute belter with his left-foot just after the break. 8
Dominik Szoboszlai: Alvarez went past him easily in the build up to Atletico's goal but was in the right place at the right time with a lovely finish for Liverpool's equaliser. 7
Rio Ngumoha: Back in the starting line-up and on his preferred left wing. Looked lively in moments but Llorente put in a good shift against the 18-year-old. 6
Florian Wirtz: Had a great chance saved by Jan Oblak and got into some dangerous positions. Unlucky not to get an assist when he played Bradley Barcola through. 6
Bradley Barcola: The £123m signing made his first Liverpool start. Showed real glimpses of his quality with come great touches and sharp movement but really should have scored in front of the Kop shortly before Mac Allister's goal. Hobbled off on the hour mark but doesn't look too serious. 6
Alexander Isak: Wasted a good chance early on but worked hard throughout and is increasingly getting more involved in games, like Iraola wants him to. Was awarded an assist for Mac Allister's goal. 6

Liverpool have won each of their last three UEFA Champions League games against Atlético Madrid; the Spanish side have never lost four consecutive games against an opponent in the European Cup/Champions League.
Atlético Madrid’s two UEFA Champions League wins against Liverpool both came in the round of 16 in 2019-20 (1-0 at home, 3-2 away). The Reds are unbeaten against them in the competition in group stage/league phase meetings, however, winning three and drawing two of five meetings.
Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola is winless in his four games against Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid, losing three of them (D1). Of managers he has faced as many times (4+), only against Imanol Alguacil (83%) does he have a higher loss percentage (5/6).
This will be the 14th consecutive UEFA Champions League campaign in which Atlético Madrid have featured – they are one of only six sides to feature in every edition since 2013-14, along with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris SG, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
Liverpool have never lost their opening game of a European Cup/UEFA Champions League campaign when playing at home, winning 10 of their 12 matches (D2). Each of the last three have been 3-2 home victories, with the most recent being against Atlético Madrid last season.
This will be Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola’s first ever match as a UEFA Champions League manager; he played three games in the competition in 2014-15 for Athletic Club. His only previous managerial experience in European football was in 2018-19, when he led AEK Larnaka to the UEFA Europa League group stage via the qualifying stage, finishing 3rd and being eliminated.
Liverpool are heading into a UEFA Champions League campaign without Mohamed Salah for the first time since 2014-15, with the Egyptian top for games (83), goals (47) and assists (19) for the Reds in the history of the competition. It will be the Reds’ first European Cup campaign to not feature either Salah or former captain Steven Gerrard since 1984-85.
Dominik Szoboszlai led all Liverpool players in the UEFA Champions League last season for goals (5), assists (4), distance covered (130km) and possession won (85).
Atlético Madrid’s Marcos Llorente has scored four goals in two appearances against Liverpool at Anfield. The only venue that Llorente has netted more goals at for the club is the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, Atlético’s home ground (15 in 145 games).
Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz averaged 3.4 chances created per 90 in the UEFA Champions League last season, more than any other player (min. 300 minutes played). Meanwhile, teammate Cody Gakpo was the player who created the most big chances per 90 (1.3).
