St Mirren manager Craig McLeish tells BBC Scotland: "I'm so proud of the group. Proud of their performance and how brave we were.

"We had to weather some storms in the first half and Chappie's [Jacob Chapman] had to make some great saves, but we have to defend like that if we want to achieve anything.

"I was probably more disappointed after the cup game as we didn't show the best version of ourselves, but we were excellent in the second half.

"The boys have set standards and keep raising the bar.

"There's disappointment because you come so close to getting a point, but our season can't be defined by picking up a point at Ibrox.

"We have to pick up points elsewhere. If we continue to play with that bravery, I am sure we will do that."

We have more from Rangers manager Derek McInnes on what the win over St Mirren means for his team.

"If you strip it back, six wins out of seven, four straight wins," he says. "We have not lost a goal apart from an own goal.

"There are areas we are improving, but we have to keep improving if we are to achieve anything this season.

"Last-minute winners are great for players, coaches and fans. We'd rather not be in that position, but credit to the players for keeping going."

St Johnstone manager Simo Valakari tells BBC Scotland: "You play against the champions and big credit to them. That's why they are the champions - they find their way to win these matches, even when it's an even game.

"We created enough chances to get something. That's the disappointment of the evening, that we could not score those.

"When we keep performing, just taking care of our performances, the results will come.

"It is a performance, not a result.

"We were in the match for the whole match."

That late win at Ibrox means Rangers have now won 26 of their past 29 home games against St Mirren.

And, bizarrely, Derek McInnes has still never lost as a manager at home to the Buddies in the top flight, winning 11 and drawing seven of 18 such games across spells with St Johnstone, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, Hearts and Rangers.

"It is just typical of football that a few weeks ago Bojan would have seemed so far out of it," he says.

"He's seen [Ryan] Naderi and [Youssef] Chermiti be big-money signings for the club and he knows, when you come to a club like Rangers, there's going to be competition.

"But, when you actually strip it back, his goals per minutes in the Premiership is up there with Lawrence Shankland.

"So I was delighted when I inherited someone like Bojan who knows his way about the Scottish Premiership and is a goalscorer and, played in the right manner and with the right partner, is capable of scoring goals."

Rangers manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "I thought we got what we deserved, granted St Mirren had a 20-minute period in the second half when they were better than us.

"They played with a bit more belief and came after us and we were guilty of so many poor decisions.

"But I thought the performance for the first hour was really strong, particularly the first half, where we absolutely battered St Mirren.

"I was really pleased with the performance, but at 0-0, as an opposition manager, when you've been put through the ringer and you know you haven't been punished for it, it does give you power and belief that you can get something from it.

"But I think that the team that had the better chances and played the better football ultimately won the game.

"There are obviously loads we have to improve on, but we have to keep winning while we are looking for those. We were guilty of not passing forward and it can't always be about pretty patterns of play."

More from Celtic manager Martin O'Neill, talking about Sunday's Premier Sports Cup trip to face Rangers: "We can play much better and let's see what Sunday brings.

"One of the great fixtures in the game. It's a cup competition we lost last season in the final. Naturally, we'd like to try and win it again. It'll not be easy up there.

"I've got a lot of time for [Rangers manager Derek McInnes]. I thought he did splendidly last season with Hearts. It was very, very close. I think he's been a really fine manager throughout his career."

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill tells BBC Scotland: "A win is a win. I'm not sure what to make of it, really. We could've scored a number of goals, particularly after we scored.

"It's difficult to score goals, there's no question about it. We made it look impossible. Delighted to have won the game. Lots to still improve on.

"We've got to get players into the penalty box to score goals. If you're sitting outside, you'll not get it.

"Once we got the goal, which obviously gave us momentum, I felt we were kind of strong there for a good period of the game but never able to put the game beyond St Johnstone.

"We really had to up the tempo [in the second half]. Sometimes, our play was a wee bit laborious. St Johnstone had a major chance in the game [with Joel Cotterill], Sam Johnstone makes a fantastic save. Otherwise, we're a goal behind."

Celtic are now unbeaten in 38 league games against Premiership newcomers (D6 L31) since Hibernian beat them in April 2018.

The Parkhead side have won 24 of their past 27 meetings with St Johnstone in all competitions.

The stats show Celtic's superiority in Perth but this match was not overly one-sided.

Promoted St Johnstone had a good few chances and gave debutant Celtic goalkeeper Sam Johnstone cause for concern on more than one occasion.

Celtic might have added to their lead with a number of late efforts but Saints keeper Toby Steward showed his prowess with some fine stops.

Well worth a watch on Sportscene on BBC One Scotland and iPlayer from 22:40 BST.

With everyone fit, Bojan Miovski is probably Rangers' fifth-choice striker.

But what does that goal do to his standing within the squad?

Derek McInnes embraced the forward on the sideline amid wild celebrations after his winning moment, a deft finish that was severely lacking from Miovski's team-mates throughout.

Celtic maintain their winning start, while Rangers' victory moves them up into second.

The Old Firm pair go head-to-head on Sunday in the last eight of the League Cup.

St Mirren, meanwhile, drop to fourth as St Johnstone stay seventh.

Over the course of the game, it is difficult to say Rangers didn't deserve the win.

The game should have been out of sight by the interval given the amount of chances Derek McInnes' side had.

However, St Mirren were the better team in the second half and gave the Ibrox club a right few frights.

Hugely encouraging again from Craig McLeish's men despite a second straight loss.

Six wins out of six for defending Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Mika Baur netted the only goal early in the second half to ultimately settled a thoroughly entertaining game.

St Johnstone contributed a lot to the match and can take plenty positives.
