Big question marks over Danny Rohl now. Five cup finals and two now lost, another trophyless season. He brought in four players in January with no real improvement in performance. Don’t appear to be able to play consistently for a full game, which again questions the ability and mentality of these team. The Americans have some big thinking to do.

Here's hoping we don't get to too many cup finals with this guy in charge. He's been found out when it matters and has always got some lame excuses and logic for the poor results In a game that called for battlers he leaves our best aggressive midfielder Connor Barron on the bench. Once again the failure to move for Lawrence Shankland available on a free has blown up in our face.

Hearts could win the league as soon as next Wednesday.

If they beat Motherwell and Falkirk, and Celtic fail to beat Rangers on Saturday, the title will be going to Gorgie for the first time since 1960.

Hearts head coach Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: “We’re in tomorrow, train the ones who need it and recovery for others - it’s important with the week we’ve got coming up.

“It’ll be good, we’ll bounce in.

“The way the players dug that out was magnificent.

“It wasn’t a change of shape as much, it was the same as the start of the first half

“It was a change of approach, a change of mindset, we had it all to do.

“We needed a big half time, and thankfully we organised ourselves enough to get more confidence in the game.

"The fans were magnificent, what a noise it was.

"We were second best for half an hour, but thankfully it was only 1-0.

"We asked the players to show more responsibility, we're not top of the league without cause, and that we needed to start showing we were the team at the top of the league because we were miles off it first half."

Mentality all comes from the captain. We saw the pathetic efforts from James Tavernier for both goals and that's what killed them.

They have spent a fortune this season, so there will be questions asked.

    This isn't a one-off, Rangers choking.

Bringing Spittal on changed the game. McInnes deserves the plaudits for that. This team are never beaten. A monumental victory. Watched from afar. Wish I was there.

    Phil

The manager that Rangers needed about 10 years ago was in the opposition dugout today. Unfortunately got caught looking 'international' when what we need are more Scots on and off the field.

    Gordon

Rohl cannot be here next season. He was, at best, the fourth choice for the job and he’s failed at every single big test he’s had. He won’t break the cycle. He’s not cut out for the job.

I have no affinity to Scottish football, But I must applaud everyone associated with Hearts at the prospect of breaking up the monopoly of the big two.

There will be mentality questions asked of Rangers.

Hearts have been top for a number of months. You have to expect that you're going to suffer in the second half, and that's mentaltity.

You have to dig in and get a result, but they didn't. Rangers had to strike and once again they didn't - they have failed.

    It's done. Finito.

  11. 'Not about mentality' - Rohlpublished at 19:56 BST

    FT: Hearts 2-1 Rangers

Rangers head coach Danny Rohl tells BBC Scotland: “First, we played a strong first half and deserved to lead.

“I think we could've created more chances.

    “Second half, this is football.

“We knew they would come with power, and they did, they played much, much more directly in behind, and we had less pressure on the ball.

“Our positioning and how we want to defend in these two situations, especially the second goal, you should never concede such a goal in this area.

“That’s what we have to improve in this area.

“This is not about mentality, I think everyone who plays football knows what happens if the home team get an equaliser, the crowd is there.

“This is what we missed today, to win such a game it is not enough to play for 45 minutes on a high level, you have to play 90 minutes on your highest level.

“And I think if we’re honest with each other in the last three games, we have not always had enough to take three wins.

“We go away now, and then we have two more games to go, and I want to see a group who play for every point and plays good football over 90 minutes."

I know Lawrence, I know what sort of boy he is, he has that presence about him.

He's calm too, when the ball comes into him, he can take a touch and calm everyone down.

He brings others into the game, and his finishing is out of this world.

He is now three games away from lifting the league title.

He deserves it, he absolutely deserves it. A diamond of a player.

  15. 'Three massive games to go'published at 19:48 BST

    FT: Hearts 2-1 Rangers

Hearts' goal-scorers have been speaking to Sky Sports:

Lawrence Shankland: "We started the second half really well. Thye tactical change helped us a lot.

"It's a great result for us again.

"It's one game at a time still. Today was another three points. We've got three massive games to go play a part in.

"You can feel the energy from the stands. We keep focused and we keep going."

Stephen Kingsley: "It's an unbelievable result for us. We had to sort a few things out, but the tempo was up after half-time. Getting the first goal, the energy lifted and gave us confidence to go get the winner.

"We've lost the first goal in our last four which isn't good enough, but we know we can get back into games."

    Hearts ran all over Rangers.

Rangers couldn't deal with their physicality.

You want to be the man to shoot your team to glory and that's what Lawrence Shankland was today. An outstanding second-half performance from him.

Fans will rightly question whether Rohl should be in the dugout next season.

We had to win “five cup finals”. We have now lost the first two to teams with 10x less budget than us.

There is no consistency in his tactics from game to game.

I have no idea what football he is trying to play, and he is totally unable to react to the changes the opposition makes.

    Same old story.

Rangers need a new manager who can win a final.

    FT: Hearts 2-1 Rangers

The atmosphere at the end is just unbelievable, honestly, unbelievable.

Derek McInnes at half time, he had the biggest team talk of his managerial career, and he got it right.

Blair Spittal was unbelievable when he came on.

What a result, what a performance.

I'm telling you right now, Lawrence Shankland's finish is out of this world.

I think today's result will win them the league, I honestly believe that.

  20. 'What a feeling, what a club'published at 19:34 BST

    FT: Hearts 2-1 Rangers

Hearts midfielder Marc Leanoard tells BBC Scotland: "I thought Spittal coming on at half time was excellent, got us back into the game

"We managed to get a foothold in it, and then Craig Halkett and Stuart Findlay must have headed every ball clear.

"It's a true team performance, and just happy to come back from 1-0 down.

    "It's amazing.

"What a feeling, what a club, I'm just honoured to be a part of it at the moment."
