Germany's Julian Weber, speaking to BBC Sport: "The other throws were feeling so bad and I just wanted one nice throw. I wanted to deliver.

Ireland's Kate O'Connor opened tonight's action by claiming gold in the heptathlon, to go with the Commonwealth title she won just days ago.

O'Connor, speaking to BBC Sport, said: "It has been so up and down.

"Some performances have been incredible and so enjoyable and some I feel I let myself down. For me, my nerves have been all over the place.

"I was feeling it was mine to lose. I knew I had to run as fast as I could. Whenever you hear roars from the crowd, I couldn't let everyone else down, let alone myself."

Great Britain's Charlotte Henrich was an unexpected finallist this evening. She was called up late to compete in the women's 400m final after team mate Amber Anning was injured in the warm-up.

Henrich, 19, was the fastest athlete eliminated in the previous round. She managed to finish sixth in the final.

Speaking to BBC Sport, she said:"I warmed up today just for vibes.

"I was warming up, having fun and unfortunate for Amber [Anning]. She was doing a stride before the call room. I don't want to say anything.

"I hope she is OK. I have no words. I was trying to gaslight myself: I am running today. Then I just ran. It is cool. I wanted to enjoy it. I was just shocked."

No athlete of any gender has won more European medals than Dina Asher-Smith.

An all-time great.

On Great Britain's relay wins...

A really unique moment as we often have a situation where one relay team does well and the other drops a baton. To have them both together celebrating is a unique moment for them. Two fantastic gold medals.

Those exchanges were phenomenal. They have check marks that they practice and it looked like they extended them as far as possible.

Great Britain's victorious men's relay team also spoke to BBC Sport shortly before the women's final.

Jeremiah Azu: "Super sweet. They came out in their numbers and they made noise. That is all we asked for. This team is incredible. At the start of the year, we set up these goals. We're hitting them off one at a time. It is huge.

"We all came out here to perform individually, but we know the relay is where we come together. Gone are the days when you hate rivals from other countries. We're friends at the end of the day, so it is good to do this together."

Louie Hinchliffe: "It is good as I gave everything. The body has not been the best in about a month. I gave everything and good to get something out of it."

Zharnel Hughes: "This morning we set it up. We knew once we were in the finals we would bring it. The crowd got up on their feet and I could feel the energy. I was like, 'Louie, keep coming at me, bruv'. I flew around that bend as fast I could."

Romell Glave: "The main aim was to get a gold medal and we accomplished that. Great things ahead. It is amazing, but I had to adjust the baton."

Success Eduan: "Honestly, we came here to win. We came here to get gold. We knew what we came here to do. The crowd was amazing."
