Bomb blast in Mogadishu as presidential candidates give speeches

The Islamist militant group, al-Shabab, has said it carried out the latest attack in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, targeting a checkpoint on a road which leads to the city's airport. It comes just days before MPs choose the next president.

Somalian-American model Sabrina Dhowre, in her role as goodwill ambassador for the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is on a trip to Kenya and Somalia to draw attention to the increasing threats to the livelihoods of rural communities.
