Bruno Fernandes and Khadija Shaw win big at top footballer awards

One of football's biggest award ceremonies took place on Tuesday evening, as the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) celebrated the best players from the 2025-26 season.

Stars from the men's and women's games were recognised for their success on the pitch, with the winners chosen by fellow professional footballers.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes took home the PFA men's player of the year award after a record-breaking season with the Red Devils.

While Jamaica forward Khadija Shaw scooped the women's player of the year title, after helping Manchester City win the Women's Super League (WSL) and the FA Cup.

But they weren't the only players to take home awards on the night. Keep reading to find out who else were the big winners...

The winners of the Professional Footballers' Association Awards - known as the PFAs - are voted for by other players, meaning it gives footballers the chance to be recognised for their achievements by different teams.

Fernandes enjoyed a successful season with Manchester United, finishing the 2025-26 Premier League campaign with nine goals and 21 assists.

By doing so he set a new Premier League record, beating the previous total of 20 assists.

His performances helped United finish third in the table and qualify for this season's Champions League.

Shaw also enjoyed a hugely impressive season with Manchester City, scoring 21 goals in 22 WSL appearances as the club won the Women's Super League for the first time in ten years.

She also picked up the Golden Boot award as the league's top scorer last season, becoming the first player to win the trophy on three occasions.

It is the second time in three seasons that Shaw has won the PFA women's player of the year award.

Manchester City's Nico O'Reilly was named the men's young player of the year.

The 21-year-old defender became a regular in City's starting line-up last season, making 34 league appearances.

He was also named player of the match when City beat Arsenal in the League Cup final.

Arsenal striker Olivia Smith picked up the women's young player of the year award for a second time.

The 22-year-old Canada international scored 10 goals in all competitions after joining Arsenal from Liverpool last summer.

She is only the second player, after England international Lauren Hemp, to win the award more than once.

Elsewhere, Arsenal and Manchester City also had plenty of players named in the Premier League team of the year.

Arsenal had the most players selected, with goalkeeper David Raya and defenders William Saliba and Gabriel among the five chosen, while Manchester City had four - including Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo.

The WSL team of the year included three players each from champions Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal - with Manchester United's Jess Park and Tottenham defender Toko Koga also making the team.
