Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Micheál Martin has been seen waiting for Donald Trump's arrival at Farmleigh House.

That's also in Phoenix Park, just a short journey from Áras an Uachtaráin where Trump is meeting Irish President Catherine Connolly.

While President Trump meets the Irish president, preparations are well under way at nearby Farmleigh House where he is due to meet Taoiseach Micheál Martin for a bilateral meeting later this morning.

The red carpet was being hoovered at Farmleigh earlier this morning, with a band rehearsing.

There is dozens of media gathered here awaiting the arrival of President Trump.

After the guard of honour, Irish President Catherine Connolly introduced President Donald Trump to a number of Irish dignitaries.

The US side then did the same, with Connolly shaking hands with a number of people including Trump's son Donald Trump Jr.

The two presidents then returned inside for a private courtesy call between the two.

Both President Trump and President Catherine Connolly have now come back out of Áras an Uachtaráin.

The national anthems of both the United States and the Republic of Ireland were played, with Trump given a guard of honour by members of the Irish military.

Donald Trump’s first port of call is the residence of Irish President Catherine Connolly.

Her role is largely ceremonial, but that’s the part of the visit which might have a bit of diplomatic jeopardy, because she is a long-standing critic of US foreign policy and military action in the Middle East.

In her election campaign last year, where she was backed by a coalition of left-wing parties, she said Mr Trump was acting like a bully.

We've just seen Donald Trump being greeted with Irish President Catherine Connolly after arriving at her official residence.

They then went into the president's residence.

Here's a reminder of the relationship between the two, who have very different political outlooks.

One of President Trump’s more interesting events today could be the courtesy call with Irish President Catherine Connolly.

She is due to greet him at shortly at Ireland's presidential residence Áras an Uachtaráin.

The two have very different political outlooks.

During last year’s presidential election campaign, Connolly described Trump as “volatile, unpredictable” and accused him of “acting like a bully”.

She has also been a long-standing critic of US foreign policy and the use of Shannon Airport by the US military.

Connolly has been less directly critical of Trump since becoming president, but has continued to speak strongly about war and international law.

Today’s courtesy call will be their first meeting since she took office last November.

As President Trump makes his way to Phoenix Park in Dublin for the arrival ceremony, a reminder that a huge security operation is in place for his visit.

The head of Ireland's police force, Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly, has described it as one of the biggest operations the force has ever undertaken.

He spoke to journalists at a press conference on Friday morning.

An extraordinary event has been declared, with 10,000 12-hour Garda shifts planned between Friday and Sunday.

Road closures and traffic restrictions will be in place in Dublin and County Clare, where the president is due to travel later on Saturday, with rolling closures around Dublin Airport this morning.

“We’re doing everything we can to minimise disruption to the public but during an event such as this, it is inevitable so I would ask for people’s patience over the weekend particularly in Dublin and Clare."

Gardaí say they are aware of protest groups planning to gather and will facilitate peaceful protests, but added "there will be no tolerance for public disorder, or attempts to impact critical infrastructure or movements of the President of the United States”.

President Trump's cavalcade has now left Dublin Airport and is making its way to Áras an Uachtaráin in Phoenix Park - the official residence of the Irish president.

An arrival ceremony is scheduled to take place there, before Trump holds a courtesy call with President Catherine Connolly.

He will later make the short journey to Farmleigh House, also in Phoenix Park, for a bilateral meeting with Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Micheál Martin.

Donald Trump shook hands with senior Irish government figures as he was welcomed on the tarmac, including Tánaiste (Irish deputy prime minister) Simon Harris, Foreign Minister Helen McEntee and the US ambassador to Ireland Ed Walsh.

The US president then got into the presidential limousine, nicknamed The Beast, which was flanked by a large cavalcade of vehicles.

It marks the start of his two-day visit which will include a courtesy call with Irish President Catherine Connolly as well as a bilateral meeting with Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Micheál Martin.

He'll later travel to County Clare to attend the Irish Open golf tournament.

He's travelling on the Qatar-gifted Air Force One. Earlier, we also saw the old Air Force One land.

A small number of crowd control barriers are beside the American Embassy in central Dublin but President Trump is not scheduled to be anywhere near the building.

Located in the upmarket Ballsbridge area of the city, it is not on the President’s two-day itinerary.

The tyres of the old Air Force One, which is landing before the plane carrying the president, kicked up a decent bit of spray as they hit the tarmac, evidence of a wet and rainy start to the day in Ireland's capital.
