| | Commonly regarded as the disco filter innovator, Sneak's trademark style (whether he is playing Latin salsa rhythms or jackin' Chicago beats) has taken him all around the world and has landed him very respectable positions in the DJ Mag World's Top 100 DJ poll for as long as I can remember.
Born in Puerto Rico in 1970, known only then as Carlos Sosa, a young Sneak was surrounded by the Latin American sounds of salsa and merengue. It was in 1983 when Carlos was 13 years old that la familia SOSA moved to Chicago.
Always the artist, a young Sneak would while away his younger years tagging local alley-ways and at the same time listen to his local radio WBMX, where he would hear early pioneers Farley "Jack-master" Funk, Steve "Silk" Hurley and the Hotmix 5 spin and spread word of House.
In was in 1986 Carlos decided to take to the turntables' doing house parties, birthday's, weddings all paying gigs to support his love for records and house music.
A few years after he worked at record stores The Hip House later Gramaphone Records we're he was well on the way to stardom. It was through the shop that he managed to hook up with Derrick Carter, who encouraged him and influenced DJING "Boomty-Boomp" style and music that helped develop his signature sound.
Sneaks own Defiant Record label was born in 1992, which he also used to unleash his music to an unsuspecting world, his debut release being "Sneaky Traxx Vol.1".
His first two albums "Rice & Beans Please" and "The Blue Funk Files" were released on Cajual and Relief Records, two of the most pivotal record labels from Chicago, which helped the careers of many young producers developing out of the windy city.
It was in 1997 on his buddy Derrick Carters "Classic" imprint that Sneak introduced us to his reworking of a Teddy Pendergrass gem, "U Cant Hide From Your Bud", a monster of a track that would become synonymous with the Sneak sound.
Sneak then went on to pump out numerous titles and EP's on well-established labels like Strictly Rhythm, Downtown, Cajual and Relief. Since then Sneak has managed to amass a number of his own labels under his heavy weight belt. Magnetic dropped in 2001 and the most recent addition to the Sneak Empire being Ooomph! Until now, Magnetic has been a Sneak only label, and has brought us titles like "Smokey Hill St", "I Dropped My Glow Stick" and last years smash "Fix My Sink", sources tell me Sneak has just signed a few new tracks from Brett Johnson, a very Chicago "jacker" named "underground" that he is releasing on Magnetic, it must be corker if he is bending the rules for him!
