7 Dances 7 Days

By Hannah Green
I have learnt 5 Dance Styles over the past 2 weeks. I have gone through pain and embarrassment all in the name of Hampshire Dance. Finally Essex Blast Reporter Rachel Thorpe has decided to challenge me to a dance off!!

At university I am too busy to learn to dance properly. I can prance around in front of a mirror, but have no set style. So I am using this beautiful web site to bring Hampshire dancing straight to you!

Over the past two weeks I have learnt ballet, salsa, swing and Morris dancing! I have sought out the finest dancing entertainment from Parkour in Basingstoke, to Caberet on Cruise ships! Finally you want me to learn Tap Dancing! Well your wish is my command.

Essex Dance Off

The Blast Reporter Rachel Thorpe from Essex has decided to challenge my dancing skills in a county verses county dance off. She is going to be learning different dance styles to me, and we are going to have a dance off at the end of this experience.

Of course nobody can beat Hampshire for dance as it contains some of the best and different dancers in the country.

Cruising

7 Dances 7 Days : Cruise Ships

My first 7 Dances 7 Days feature saw me board the P&O cruise ship Oceana. I was given a tour of the entire ship including a look backstage of its two theatres. Then I met up with two performers from the ship to discuss life on board.

Parkour and Basingstoke One Beat Festival

7 Dances 7 Days: Parkour

On Saturday 19th August I made the trip to Basingstoke to the One Beat Music Festival. This festival exhibited a wide variety of local talent, over five separate stages showcasing rock bands, local artists, hip hop rappers, global dancing and world music. There was a fantastic dance section including Chinese dragon dancing, Indian traditional dancing and parkour.

Border Morris Dancing

I went along for a lesson in Border Morris Dancing from the Hook Eagle Morris Side in Basingstoke. With crazy face paint and violent-stick waving, this men's side managed to teach me the rudiments of Morris Dancing. I had a fantastic time and didn't want to leave!

Ballet

Without my tutu, or even ballet shoes, I took part in a Ballet lesson in Southsea. Despite not being the most adept ballet dancer, I did enjoy myself and proved that anyone, no matter how old or unfit, can be graceful in this dance.

Salsa

I went to a Salsa lesson in Southampton on Sunday 3rd of September. It managed to turn both me and my partner into sexy sensual pairs dancers. Although our counting out loud did spoil this image, we had a fantastic time!
