EPISODE 1: MOHINDER'S STORY...
In Bombay, India, Dr. Mohinder Suresh concludes a lecture on the human genome project. He explains that the project has discovered tiny mutations in the human species' genetic code, changes that are taking place at shockingly rapid rates.

The class is cut short when a colleague brings Suresh some terrible news, his father was killed while driving a taxi in New York City. Suresh doesn't believe that his father's death was an accident; he believes his dad was murdered because of his theories on human evolution.

Arriving at his dad's apartment, Suresh begins looking through his father's research, when he hears a man's voice in another room. Grabbing what he can, Suresh flees the apartment before being discovered. Before any more questions can present themselves to him, Mohinder heads to New York, looking for answers. Why are people from all over the planet developing astounding and unnatural abilities, and why did knowledge of their whereabouts get his father killed?

Some weeks later in New York, Mohinder has learned little more than how to drive a cab around the city. When his latest fare begins talking about a "retired" professor from India who shares his surname, Suresh bolts from the cab, fleeing into the safety of the city.
