The back row consists of my second cousins. The middle, from left to right: my Gt Uncle Bill Gasgarth, his wife Annie, my Grandmother Margaret (Gasgarth) Alderson, my Gt Grandmother Margaret Gasgarth & family friend on the front row. After being in Canada for over 50 years, I am afraid I have lost touch with their descendents so here's hoping. Thank you. Terry Alderson - Toronto 05-May-2003 I've had lots of support from people since the interview and congratulations. Raised over £500 for Arthritis Care Barrow Branch. I love the web site and have just seen and heard the interview. Next Challenge the Great North Run 21st September 2003. Carole Barry 28-April-2003 My Great Grandfather Albert Yarwood was manager of the Walney Saltworks when they began production in 1897, so naturally I have a keen interest in the history of the plant. I've assembled all I know at http://www.btinternet.com/~stephen.yarwood/walney_saltworks.htm, if anybody out there has any additional information or photographs I'd be very grateful. I lived at North End as a child and remember Mum and I going to town by rowing boat, starting at the bottom of what I believe is now Muncaster Ave. North Scale. We were rowed by a Mr. Jackson, who to my eyes was a very old man at that time. I may be mistaken, but I think he lived in a wooden hut under the hedge on the beach. The fare was 1d per adult and 1/2d per child. When the tide was out we walked over the footbridge, and through the tunnel under the slagbank, passing the Old Buildings in Hindpool Rd. The football ground, and Fire Station into Abbey Rd. Is there anyone else who recall the old chap who rowed his boat so far for so little. Those were the "Good Old Days" !!
