Inclusion

You belong at the BBC because the BBC belongs to you

Diversity, inclusion and belonging

To deliver value to all audiences and ensure the content we make is inclusive and representative of all groups and communities in the UK, we build teams that draw on the widest possible range of experiences, talent and ideas. We champion inclusivity to create an open BBC that reflects and celebrates the diversity of audiences we serve.

Our workforce is our greatest strength. And making sure our workforce represents the audiences we serve is vital to serving and representing everyone, whoever and wherever they are.

BBC Extend scheme

Whilst the BBC welcomes applications from disabled people for any of its advertised roles, BBC Extend ringfences roles that are only open to people who are defined as disabled under the Equality Act 2010 (or the DDA 1995 in Northern Ireland).

BBC Extend is the BBC’s positive action employment programme for people who are deaf, disabled, or neurodivergent.

Socio-economic diversity

The BBC is for everyone and our content needs to represent all of the audiences we serve. To ensure we do this and provide value for all audiences, our teams must have people with different backgrounds, experiences and ideas. Currently 20% of our workforce identify as coming from a working-class background. Our ambition is to increase that representation.

To ensure that apprentices and employees from less advantaged backgrounds thrive at the BBC, we offer a range of support.

Employee networks

Across the BBC, we have a range of dedicated and specialist staff networks that bring together people from under-represented backgrounds to network and help us make better-informed decisions.
