    *Gauff 0-2 Potapova

If the opening two games are anything to go by, this match is going to be a brutal baseline battle. I don't think either player has made a foray into the service boxes yet, never mind attacking the net.

Potapova has won eight of the nine points.

Anastasia Potapova nails yet another deep return and Coco Gauff's forehand reply goes into the net.

Gauff probably didn't see the opening game of the match playing out that way when she elected to serve...

28th seed Anastasia Potapova arrived at the French Open off the back of a career-best clay-court swing and has continued that form in Paris.

The Russian-born Austrian reached the final of the Linz Open, the semi-finals in Madrid (as a lucky loser) and the last 16 in Rome from qualifying - climbing from 97th in the world to number 30 in the process.

Potapova beat Australia's Maya Joint 6-1 6-2 in round one before fighting from a set down to beat Britain's Katie Boulter. Like Gauff, she's had struggles on serve, being broken five times in her second-round win and having a first-serve percentage around 50% throughout the tournament.

The 25-year-old is searching for only her second appearance in the second week of a major, having previously reached round four at the 2024 French Open.

On paper, 2025 champion Coco Gauff has cruised through to round three, dropping just nine matches across back-to-back straight-set win.

However, she was far from faultless against Mayar Sherif in round two, having her serve broken twice in each set.

Gauff has enjoyed a bright clay-court swing, reaching the final at the Rome Masters as well as the quarter-finals in Stuttgart, but hasn't clinched a title on any surface since last October.

The 22-year-old, who has also won a doubles title at Roland Garros (2024), has reached at least the quarter-finals on each of her past five French Open appearances.

Magnificent scenes on Court Philippe-Chatrier as Diane Parry has to wait for the French crowd to stop singing before she can do her post-match interview.

She said: "I'm completely exhausted but so happy for winning this match. It was a fantastic atmosphere, you supported me to the end, thank you very much. It was a big day between my match and the Champions League final with PSG. Don't forget, Paris is magic."

On beating Amanda Anisimova: "It was a very solid match. It wasn't easy, it was a rollercoaster in there. She was playing very aggressively and I was struggling for consistency. I'm very happy to be able to win the match, I fought to the end."

On her doubles match later today: "I'm not sure I'll have time but what I really want to watch is the Champions League final, it's something dear to my heart. I might get on for the doubles immediately but I want to watch PSG this evening so we'll see how it goes."

Parry spoke in French during her post-match interview and it was translated into English live on TNT Sports.
