Arthur Fery has the first set - and he has Centre Court on their feet.

The dream just keeps on giving for the Brit. There's a long way still to go, but what a start!

Taylor Fritz is speaking with his team and it appears that a knee injury he has struggled with this year is causing him some discomfort.

It's worth a reminder - at repeated points even - that this is a wildcard against the ninth seed! Against a Grand Slam finalist!

What a run Arthur Fery is on! Will it continue? He's given himself a great start.

This is much better from Taylor Fritz who has definitely settled after that nervy start cost him an early break point.

A beautiful back hand from Fritz puts him in control of the game with one of the shots of the match so far.

He holds to 15 when he fires in an ace. Alexander Zverev didn't really get a chance in that game.

I think Cobolli is getting frustrated with the crowd but I don't think it is that bad at all. He has played in Rome and this is like silence compared to that!

Don't make him angry...

Cobolli is starting to get a bit annoyed with the crowd.

Earlier he was frustrated the home fans reacted with a cheer when a ball clipped the baseline, now he's complaining when a champagne cork pops on his service motion.

Chair umpire Arnaud Gabas tells people to "enjoy their drinks" but remain respectful to the players.

Cobolli is certainly hot under the collar - and that's helped Fery go ahead.

Flavio Cobolli's serve abandoned him there. Forced into yet another second serve, he's forced wide by Arthur Fery's return and then sprays his cross-court backhand wide.

Fery ROARS. He's stolen the first set, converting his only break point.

"Come on!" says Arthur Fery as Flavio Cobolli puts a forehand into the tramlines.

Cobolli, on the approach, does well to react to a net cord, the ball popping up at his face, and later keeps his composure with Fery chasing everything down to plant home a backhand volley. 15-all.

Let. Let. Serve into the net. Ball toss goes wonky. Let. Cobolli eventually lands his serve but then puts a sliced backhand into the net. 30-all.

Double fault. Set point.

Alexander Zverev starts with back-to-back aces as he continues to serve superbly.

Taylor Fritz manages to return the third serve and he wins the point with a brilliant forehand back across court.

The American stretches to reach Zverev's next serve but he can't return it.

Zverev holds to 15 when Fritz overhits a backhand from the serve.

Arthur Fery's legs are just so strong.

These two men have both covered more court than any other players in this year's Wimbledon championship. They were both sitting around the 11,000 metre mark coming into this match.

What separates Fery from the rest is his ability to come forward and keep putting pressure on. That's what has got him through some tough moments in the past two rounds. He had approached the net 200 times coming into this match, double that of Cobolli.

Taylor Fritz slows down Alexander Zverev's strong start as he holds to 15.

The American's serve is much improved and he appears to have settled down as he forces Zverev to return into the net three times in the game.

That was a blink and you'll miss it service game from Arthur Fery.

He faced a break point in his previous one. No such issues this time.

Flavio Cobolli has worked on the emotional side of things.

We all know Italians can get rather engaged in their sporting environments, but he has learned to elevate his emotions at the right times to play great tennis and at other times he can stay really relaxed.

He has found a really good balance there.

A strong hold from Alexander Zverev as he begins with an ace before another powerful serve sees Taylor Fritz loop the return high into the air and well beyond the baseline.

Fritz responds but then a superb shot at the net from Zverev wins another point. A superb ace sees him hold to 15.

One of the key things for Arthur Fery in the early stages of this contest was to get the crowd involved with a positive start and hopefully unsettle Flavio Cobolli.

We saw the Italian become annoyed with the noise during a brilliant exchange a few games ago - and the home favourite is doing a good job of containing the ninth seed so far.

Flavio Cobolli cruises to 30-0 with a couple of good first serves and then crushes an inside-out forehand winner off a moon-ball second-serve return.

Arthur Fery says "anything you can do, I can do better", dispatching a pinpoint cross-court forehand for 40-15.

Cobolli shanks one off his frame for 40-30 but holds his nerve to keep the first set on serve.

When you add the heat to the nervous tension of being out on Centre Court, it is going to be a physically and emotionally demanding game for these two players.

That was a massive game for Arthur Fery to come through after going down 15-40.

Both men seem to be a bit anxious early on here and Alexander Zverev manages to return well to get to 15-40 and earns himself two break points.

Taylor Fritz delivers a much better serve to survive one break point but it was sloppy tennis again on the next point.

A weak shot goes into the net to give Zverev the first break and put him in control of the first set.
