The 2015 French Open champion and three-time major winner is shown a video montage of his Roland Garros highlights, before addressing the crowd - after they finish chanting his name once more.
An emotional Wawrinka thanks tournament director Amelie Mauresmo and president of the French Tennis Federation Gilles Moretton, who have joined him on court, and says it was a "battle of emotions" when deciding to make this season the last of his playing career.
"In the end, I gave my all to this sport," he says.
Another video featuring tributes from Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Gael Monfils, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz follows, before he is presented with a glass trophy displaying the layers of a clay court.
He doesn't seem to want to leave the court, and conducts more cheers as he makes his way around all sides of the arena, before stopping to sign autographs.

Anna Bondar saves the first match point, but Elina Svitolina dinks over the net on the next one and the Hungarian can't get to it in time.
Svitolina holds her hands aloft before giving Bondar a warm embrace.
The seventh seed was made to work for that one and she'll be relieved to seal her spot in the second round.

Some really nice words from Jesper de Jong as he addresses the crowd.
"To be honest, it is not about me today," De Jong says.
"A funny story about Stan, he was playing against my coach when I was a ball kid. I'm not trying to say that you are old...
"It is all about Stan, the way he is fighting. I almost got broken by his signature shot, what that lethal backhand did to many players - including my coach."

Anna Bondar hits her groundstrokes with venom, but Elina Svitolina defends well and blasts a forehand beyond the Hungarian before landing an ace for a 40-0 lead.
Bondar then skews a return wide to take us to a tie-break. It feels apt for a match like this.

That is some victory for lucky loser Jesper de Jong.
But this moment is all about Stan Wawrinka, the 2015 champion, who has played the final French Open match of his career.
De Jong encourages the crowd to cheer for his opponent after they shake hands at the net. A really nice touch, that.
