Norrie was in big trouble there when he saved some break points and has got himself into a tie break. I think his coach will be relatively happy about the position he's in.

A poor miss at the net by Cameron Norrie offers Luca Van Assche a big boost at the start of the tie-break.

The Briton then frames a shot well beyond the baseline, but Norrie is on the board as Van Assche nets with the court at his mercy.

Cameron Norrie is looking to strike a huge blow here on Luca Van Assche's serve.

After twice breaking back to level this opening set, it is now Norrie applying the pressure as he nudges ahead at 15-30.

On an important fifth point, Norrie looks to be in charge but nets a backhand to give Van Assche a game point. Another miss - we're going to a tie-break.

Somewhat surprisingly, Cameron Norrie is the one shouting "allez" as he reaches game points against France's Luca Van Assche.

He lets out another celebratory shout in his opponent's language as he holds to once again move a game away from the set.

No trouble whatsoever for Luca Van Assche as he swiftly serves his way to a love hold which keeps him in the first set. He handled that situation superbly, you have to say.

Back over to Cameron Norrie. Can he quickly put the pressure back on his opponent?

Daniil Medvedev and Hugo Gaston are bringing the entertainment! After going 30-15 up on serve with a brilliant get from a clip off the net cord, Gaston decides to have a pop at the underarm serve.

It gets an 'oooh' from the crowd, but Medvedev is alert to it and the Russian wins the point before grabbing the first break of the match.

Cameron Norrie lands his 10th winner of the match to edge ahead on serve, overtaking his unforced error count.

He's serving much better and finding his marks here - and from 4-2 down the Briton is within reach of the set.

I have to give Norrie credit - that's two points from him at the baseline. Great effort and now he's back on serve.

Cameron Norrie was staring at a 5-2 deficit when Luca Van Assche forced a break point in the seventh game.

But he survived that, and now levels up the set for a second time. Gritty stuff from the British number one, and his refusal to go away will certainly be frustrating his opponent.

Van Assche's plan, knowing Norrie's angled backhand across court is dangerous, is playing him down the middle and not give him any angles.

It's almost like a warm-up for some of these points - straight up and down this court. It's not a bad tactic.

That's really positive play, however, and Norrie does force a break point with an excellent forehand into the corner leaving Luca Van Assche unable to respond.

A few unforced errors have crept into Norrie's game. A double fault and a forehand and a backhand error in the previous game. He hasn't quite got it going yet.

It's frustrating. Luca Van Assche is not doing an awful lot.

Luca Van Assche is making his move now and can sense a quick finish to this first set as he reaches yet another break point on Cameron Norrie's serve.

This time, though, the Briton slams the door shut with three successive points to hold, including a booming cross-court backhand which draws plenty of admiration from the crowd. That could be huge for Norrie.

We've seen seven unforced errors from Cameron Norrie so far, and the vast majority have come off the forehand. It's not quite working for him yet.

A big first serve helps Luca Van Assche to game points, and the Frenchman does consolidate his advantage here to take control of the opening set.

Daniil Medvedev looks up to the sky as Hugo Gaston clinches a hold after saving a break point with an unconventional moonball. Medvedev returned it with a swinging backhand volley at the net, leaving the court open for an easy pass.

It's interesting. If you're her coach the obvious thing would be getting her a little bit quicker, but at the age of 32, are you going to become more explosive if you get into the gym and start doing excessive jumping and sprint? And at the age of 32 with a lot of tennis under your belt there's the risk of injury.

That's the really tough thing about tennis training - you have to be sprinting for on hours on end. At this age, Novak aside I suppose, it's very, very hard to change your physiology.

There's no doubting she was exposed at Wimbledon with her speed against Coco Gauff - you could see she was really struggling to get around the court - but her ball-striking, no-one's denying she's good enough.

Cameron Norrie is struggling on serve again here.

He saves the first, but a double fault on the second will be a sore one to take.

A powerful forehand aimed at the feet of Luca Van Assche proves too tricky for the Frenchman, as Cameron Norrie gets on the board at 30-15.

But, just as Norrie did in the previous game, Van Assche clinches his first hold of serve with an ace.

Nicely done!

Cameron Norrie is clearly growing in confidence after a rusty opening game and polishes off a first hold of serve with an ace to complete an early turnaround in set one.

Great Britain's Cameron Norrie spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live before beginning his US Open: "I feel like I'm locking onto the tennis and focused on wanting to play matches and be in tough moments, play different players, top players and players below me.

"I've had a lot of wins and three-set matches so it's nice to have that balance of being fresh. I had a week off and then I was at TCU [Texas University] practising. I'm feeling good and I'm ready to get going and I'm going to give everything point for point."

On what he gains from practicing at TCU: "It's really nice to be resting and staying one week away from the tour and staying in hotels, [rather than] usually being in the tennis bubble with players focused on the tennis. It's nice to take a step back and go to TCU where I went to college, play some golf, train hard.

"It's very simple: gym, tennis, physio, sleep. It was so hot so it was tough to practise. There are so many people there and they're not asking anything of you, they're just there to watch."

On whether he's given any advice to the younger British players entering the US Open: "No-one's really come to me too much but it's nice to see all of those boys doing well. Toby Samuel, Harry Wendelken and obviously Jake [Fearnley] getting through with the lucky loser and we've got so many more boys in the main draw too.

"I'm not surprised, we've got some good talent coming through and it's good to see now."
