Having perhaps been somewhat unsettled by Elina Svitolina's aggressive style in that second set, Marta Kostyuk makes a lightning start to the third set as she races to a 0-40 lead and three break points.

Svitolina saves the first two, but Kostyuk pounces on a tentative second serve to make the breakthrough.

I don't think Kostyuk can believe how well Svitolina is playing up at the net.

Hugeee cross-court backhand from Elina Svitolina, and it hauls Marta Kostyuk back from game point.

Svitolina then gets her reward for her continued willingness to get forward as she forces an error from Kostyuk on her compatriot's next game point, but Svitolina misses her first set point moments later.

  6. Deuce on Kostyuk servepublished at 12:44 BST

    Svitolina 3-6 5-2 Kostyuk*

Marta Kostyuk looks set to force Elina Svitolina to serve out the set at 40-15.

But she misses a backhand, before Svitolina takes full advantage of a look at a second serve and finishes the point with a slice that drops perfectly on the line. Deuce.

  7. Svitolina holds servepublished at 12:41 BST

    Svitolina 3-6 5-2 Kostyuk*

This is a different Elina Svitolina to the one we saw for much of the opening set, and there is currently no sign of her relinquishing her advantage here. Another hold of serve puts her a game away from a deciding set.

  8. Kostyuk holds servepublished at 12:39 BST

    *Svitolina 3-6 4-2 Kostyuk

Marta Kostyuk digs in to hold from 30-30 after a double fault and maintain the pressure on Elina Svitolina.

That's the first tight game in a little while. Will we have another twist before the end of this set?

  9. Svitolina holds servepublished at 12:34 BST

    Svitolina 3-6 4-1 Kostyuk*

There has been a notable change in approach from Elina Svitolina over the first hour of this match. Where she was somewhat the more passive of the two players in the opening stages, she is mixing up her shots and another drop shot helps her edge closer to levelling the match.

Whether Svitolina wins or loses this match, I think they will be showing her the highlights and telling her this is how she needs to play.

  11. Kostyuk holds servepublished at 12:30 BST

    *Svitolina 3-6 3-1 Kostyuk

Marta Kostyuk halts the run of games against her with a straightforward, rapid hold of serve of her own.

  12. Svitolina holds servepublished at 12:28 BST

    Svitolina 3-6 3-0 Kostyuk*

It was Marta Kostyuk who took the first three games in the first set, and now Elina Svitolina has taken charge of the second as she concedes just the single point on her way to a comfortable hold of serve.

It feels like there's been a big momentum shift here as the seventh seed strides confidently to her chair.

    *Svitolina 3-6 2-0 Kostyuk

No escape for Marta Kostyuk this time. Elina Svitolina has the breakthrough in the second set and it's game on Court Philippe Chatrier.

You can hear the rain bouncing off the roof so it might be a while before any of the outdoor courts see some action.

  14. Break point Svitolinapublished at 12:24 BST

    Svitolina 3-6 1-0 Kostyuk*

That's a huge opportunity missed by Elina Svitolina as she overhits a driving forehand when leading 0-30 on Marta Kostyuk's serve.

Kostyuk continues to handle the big points in this match with real calm and she restores parity - but a slip at the back of the court puts her on the back foot in a rally and Svitolina will have a look at a break point here.

  15. Who will seize their opportunity?published at 12:21 BST

When Iga Swiatek was dumped out of the French Open on Sunday, it meant there were no previous champions left in either the men's or women's singles draws heading into the second week.

Opportunity knocks. But who will seize their chance over the next seven days in Paris?

In the women's draw, world number one Aryna Sabalenka is the standout contender as she looks to win the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen for the first time.

Elina Svitolina and Mirra Andreeva are the only other players remaining among the top 14 seeds.

Just two of the top nine men's seeds remain in German Alexander Zverev and Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime.

But young stars Flavio Cobolli, Jakub Mensik, Joao Fonseca and Rafael Jodar are among those hoping to cause a shock.

Svitolina is trying to take as many balls out of the air as she can. She has enough respect of the movement of Kostyuk to know these balls will not be put to bed otherwise.

  17. Svitolina holds serve at start of second setpublished at 12:20 BST

    Svitolina 3-6 1-0 Kostyuk*

Elina Svitolina is having to work so hard to win some of these points because of Marta Kostyuk's athleticism, but she keeps her focus and eventually puts the point away on an important fifth point for 40-30.

Svitolina introduces a bit of variety to help her get to safety after Kostyuk forces deuce, and that will be a huge relief as she makes a positive start to set two.

    *Svitolina 3-6 0-0 Kostyuk

Elina Svitolina has the opportunity to move into the world's top five at Roland Garros - but she needs to reach the final to do so.

For Marta Kostyuk, she could make her top-10 debut if she reaches the final.

  19. Game and first set - Kostyukpublished at 12:12 BST

    *Svitolina 3-6 0-0 Kostyuk

A great mini battle in that final game to end the first set, but it is the lower-ranked Marta Kostyuk who takes it - and you have to say it's deserved.

The 15th seed has been sharper from the start and is one set away from the first major semi-final of her career.

    Svitolina 3-5 Kostyuk*

After seeing two break points come and go, Elina Svitolina faces a first set point but handles it brilliantly, staying in the rally before lobbing the advanced Marta Kostyuk to stay alive.
