Alcaraz was making his return from a well-documented wrist injury in New York so it will be interesting to see how he judges his tournament.

The Spaniard will of course be disappointed to bow out, and the 53 unforced errors he made in that match was certainly uncharacteristic.

But he didn't appear overly forlorn as he made his way off the court, looking his usually-chipper self.

Although he's probably just grateful he can go to bed.

Shelton's reward for his first victory over a player ranked in the top 3?

A semi-final date against compatriot Frances Tiafoe.

Tiafoe beat Alex Michelsen in a thrilling quater-final in what feels like a lifetime ago now, with the eleventh seed coming from two sets down to win 5-7 3-6 7-5 6-3 7-6 (10-6).

Four hours and 28 minutes.

That's how long that match lasted.

Now add in the fact that it's just gone 3.30am local time in New York.

Alcaraz gets the all-important hold but there were a couple of extremely tired-looking shots from the Spaniard in there.

He produces a stunning forehand to go 40-15, before a sloppy double fault.

But Shelton hits a poor shot of his own to gift Alcaraz a way out and we're heading for a tie-break to decide this one.
