Tostevin breaks second Guernsey record at Glasgow 2026

Tatiana Tostevin broke her second Guernsey swimming record at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The 23-year-old, racing at her third Commonwealth Games, became the first Guernsey woman to break the 27-second mark in the 50m freestyle.

She clocked 26.95 seconds as she came third in her heat at Glasgow 2026 and 27th overall to add to her 50m backstroke record.

Fellow islander Tallulah-Mae Rautenbach finished one place behind her in the same heat and also broke the old island best as she swam 27.03 to end 29th.

Emma Bourgaize was first in her heat in a time of 27.50 and was 38th fastest.

"I didn't know how it would go or the time it would be, so I wasn't necessarily focused on that," Tostevin told BBC Guernsey.

"I just wanted to give it all I could and come out with a bit of a personal best and a record was so amazing

"Sometimes it's really hard when you're at a big competition to try and also hit those times because there's so much going in your head."

Elsewhere, Ronny Hallett swan 26.00 as he finished eighth in his heat and 44th overall in the men's 50m butterfly, while his brother Charlie-Joe was 13th in the 200m breaststroke.

Oriana Wheeler finished fifth in her heat and 13th overall in the women's 200m individual medley, while sisters Delphine and Elodie Riley finished fourth and fifth respectively when they raced one another in their 800m freestyle heat.

Henry Bolton and Zachary Maiden were 24th and 26th respectively in the 100m backstroke while Bolton, Tostevin, Charlie-Joe Hallett and Orla Rabey teamed up to finish 10th in the 4x100m mixed medley relay.

Bowlers Jason Greenslade and Ian Merrien got off to a superb start as they cruised past Channel island rivals Jersey in the men's pairs.

The duo went a shot down to Malcolm de Sousa and and Ross Davis in the first end of each set in their opening group game before recovering well.

The Sarnians were 5-1 winners in the first set before winning the second 7-1 to go second in the early standings.

Meanwhile Alison Merrien won her opening women's singles game against Niue's Catharine Papani in style.

Merrien won the first set 17-1 before winning the second 9-2 as she too topped her group after one match.
