So it is the Dragons that finish as Wales’ lowest-ranked side for an 18th year out of 23 seasons.

This was a familiar feeling for Filo Tiatia’s men in what has been a much-improved campaign – they have drawn four games in the United Rugby Championship that they will feel they should have won.

Could they have been a bit more cutthroat and ambitious when Scarlets were down to 13? Dragons settled for stretching their lead with a penalty rather than going for the kill.

Nigel Davies’ men stayed in the contest and shared the spoils thanks to Macs Page’s well-worked try and Joe Hawkins’ third excellent conversion from the right wing.

Scarlets have suffered late losses in recent weeks but finish with a rescue job that could have been even better with the clock in the red, only for Hawkins to be short with an ambitious long-range penalty.

The west Walians will be glad that an extremely frustrating season is over.

Scarlets supporters will enjoy telling Dragons supporters that even after a chaotic campaign they have avoided the Welsh wooden spoon.

The Gwent side must cop that flak safe in the knowledge that they HAVE made strides this season.

That's it for the Welsh sides in the regular season of the URC, although Cardiff's campaign continues for at least one play-off game.

Taine Plumtree on S4C: "It was just an arm-wrestle for the whole 80 minutes and a lot of swings in momentum. I thought we handled it well in parts.

"We were able to capitalise with some points but it's one of those games that is hard to put into words."

"It was important for us today to go out and put in a performance for each other and for the fans. We did that.

"It was a tough game, especially in the second half with the two yellow cards, but we stuck in it."

It's a great move. The Scarlets' pattern of play creates the space for the kick.

    It's finished very well.

    Lovely try by Scarlets.

    All level.
