    Worcs 186-6 v Durham

Ethan Brookes and Matthew Waite are digging in to try and ensure Worcestershire reach stumps with four wickets still in hand.

Waite has just punched Luke Robinson off the back foot for four and the pair have added 33 so far, with six more overs scheduled for tonight.

  2. Close of play at Sophia Gardenspublished at 18:31 BST

    Somerset 337-9 v Glamorgan

A very strong middle of the day for the visitors, who bounced back well to losing James Rew early on thanks to a 133-run stand between Josh Thomas and Tom Lammonby.

After a slight wobble it looked as though Craig Overton and Tom Abell - who went on to top score with 82 - had given Somerset a stranglehold on the match, only for three wickets to fall for the loss of just nine runs late on.

Tom Norton took three wickets - his first at County Championship level - while Timm van der Gugten, Ryan Hadley, and Zain ul Hassan all struck twice.

Ben Stokes' bowling might be done for the day. His third spell has come to an end after six overs - one of those took an hour either side of a rain delay. Overall, he has 2-40 from 14 overs.

  4. Close of play at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:29 BST

    Essex 51-2 v Hants 235

    A good day for Essex.

They won the toss and had Hants 88-4 after Sam Cook took three wickets.

The visitors fought back with Jake Lehmanm’s 89 and Ben Brown’s 73 but suffered a collapse after tea, losing their last four wickets for just seven runs.

Wiaan Mulder also picked up three poles for the home side.

In reply, Paul Walter fell for 5 and Dean Elgar 18.

  5. wicket

LEICESTERSHIRE ALL OUTpublished at 18:25 BST

    Sussex v Leics 328

A few bonus runs for the final wicket and 328 is something to work with.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18:24 BST

    Pretorius c Cooke b Hadley 3 (Somerset 337-9 v Glamorgan)

The final ball of the day bears fruit!

A little bit of momentum for the hosts to take into Saturday as Ryan Hadley claims his second wicket of the day, as Chris Cooke catches Migael Pretorius behind.

    An extra bowling point, too.

  7. Close of play at the County Groundpublished at 18:22 BST

    Derbyshire 342-3 v Northants

A positive first day for the hosts, who had four half centurions in Harry Came (73) and Matthew Montgomery (54), as well as Caleb Jewell (91) and Wayne Madsen (57) who both end the day not out.

The hosts will look to build a score as quickly as they can tomorrow morning.

Calvin Harrison, Ben Sanderson, and Harry Conway made the breakthroughs for the visitors.

  8. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 18:22 BST

    Warwickshire 147 v Yorkshire 110-4 - Yorkshire trail by 37 runs

After about half-an-hour off the field because of bad light the officials decide to call it a day in Birmingham.

We saw 14 wickets fall and there probably would have been a few more if we hadn't lost that time to bad light.

Yorkshire put the hosts in to bat and it proved the right call as Bears batters fell at regular intervals, with only Sam Hain (57) and Ethan Bamber (28) making anything more than 10.

The reply continued in the same vein with Yorkshire 38-3 before a 63-run partnership between Harry Brook and James Wharton gave the visitors a boost.

The Bears managed to remove Wharton before the close but Brook will resume in the morning on 29 not out alongside Jonny Bairstow.

  9. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:21 BST

    Notts 317-7 v Surrey

Confirmation that there won't be any further cricket tonight after a see-saw first day.

Early wickets for Surrey's Dan Worrall, then two sizeable partnerships for Nottinghamshire... followed by more wickets for Worrall and the current stand between Joe Clarke and Fergus O'Neill that has lifted the home side above 300.

Clarke remains 129 not out, while Worrall has figures of 5-61.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18:17 BST

    Gregory c Tribe b ul Hassan 37 (Somerset 335-8 v Glamorgan)

The hosts are finishing the day strong!

Zain ul Hassan has another and we're well into the tailenders to close the day.

Not for the first time today, a Somerset batsman edges one to Asa Tribe and is off back to the pavilion, this time it's Lewis Gregory.

A handful of balls left, and Jack Leach joins the action.

  11. Bad light stops play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:17 BST

    Notts 317-7 v Surrey

It's almost as if a switch had been pressed and that was the cue for runs to begin flowing once more.

Fergus O'Neill crashed a boundary to bring up the 50 partnership and Joe Clarke has just hit successive fours off Sean Abbott as Nottinghamshire finish the day on a high.

The gloomy conditions mean play has been suspended, though - and it's likely that will be it for tonight. Clarke is 129 not out, with O'Neill on 31.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18:16 BST

    Elgar c Yusuf b Fuller 18 (Essex 42-2 v Hants 235)

Hampshire nip out another and Dean Elgar can’t see it through to the close as miscues a pull and is caught at long leg.

  13. Close of play at Old Traffordpublished at 18:11 BST

    Lancs 201 v Middlesex 38-2

To nobody's great surprise, the light is deemed unlikely to improve tonight - so we'll try again in the morning with the match intriguingly poised.

Middlesex seemed to be on top after bowling the home side out for 200, but those two late wickets for Jimmy Anderson have put the contest very much in the balance.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18:08 BST

    Abell c Cooke b ul Hassan 86 (Somerset 328-7 v Glamorgan)

That's a big wicket before the end of the day!

Zain ul Hassan has thrown everything at the Somerset batting line today and finally gets something to show for it.

Tom Abell takes a tired-looking swing and clips the ball through to Chris Cooke's gloves.

A fine innings nevertheless, that leaves Somerset in a strong position whatever happens between now and the close.

  15. Second batting point for Nottspublished at 18:07 BST

    Notts 300-7 v Surrey

Joe Clarke squirts Gus Atkinson for a single behind gully and that secures another bonus point for Nottinghamshire. Surrey, of course, already have two in the bag after taking the sixth wicket.

It's needed a reset for the batting side, who would probably have been targeting 400 plus when they came out after tea but that cluster of wickets means sights may need to be set a little lower.

  16. Postpublished at 17:59 BST

    Notts 298-7 v Surrey

It's developed into something of a stalemate, with Nottinghamshire hovering on the brink of a second batting bonus point but content to defy the Surrey seamers for now.

We've just had a light meter check, but play continues for now with nine overs still scheduled.

  17. 50 runs

A third 50 partnership of the day for Somerset, as Tom Abell and Lewis Gregory keep Glamorgan at bay as the hosts chase wicket number seven.

They join Abell and Craig Overton (71) and Josh Thomas and Tom Lammonby (133) as half-century partnerships in this match.

  18. Bad light stops play at Old Traffordpublished at 17:53 BST

    Lancs 201 v Middlesex 38-2

    James AndersonImage source, Shutterstock

There's been an enticing duel between the two captains, with Leus du Plooy advancing out of his crease to drive Jimmy Anderson for two off-side fours in an over.

It's a positive approach from the Middlesex skipper - but we won't see any more of it for now because the light has deteriorated sufficiently for the umpires to take the players off.

Still 17 overs left tonight, in theory.

  19. 300 runs

    for Leicestershirepublished at 17:51 BST

    Sussex v Leics 303-9

Four leg byes as Ollie Robinson loses his line a fraction and Leicestershire have their second point.

Sent in and having slumped to 202-7, they’ll be fairly pleased.

    13 overs to go.

  20. Bad light stops playpublished at 17:50 BST

    Warwickshire 147 v Yorkshire 110-4

It's been gloomy for the majority of the day but Edgbaston has until now managed to escape the clutches of the gathering darkness.

But a check of the light reader results in the sides heading off for a break in play.
