Great Britain were relegated from the top division of the World Championship following a 6-0 defeat by Latvia in Zurich.

GB started well but failed to convert their chances as Liam Kirk, David Clements and Brett Perlini all had shots saved.

Latvia went ahead when Martins Dzierkals scored from close range and extended their lead through Deniss Smirnovs and Rudolfs Balcers.

Latvia maintained their momentum in the second period as goals by Eduards Tralmaks, Haralds Egle and Renars Krastenbergs put them 6-0 up before a scoreless final period.

Latvia kept their quarter-final hopes alive with the win and face Hungary in their last group game on Tuesday.

GB, meanwhile, finished their campaign winless following a 6-3 defeat by Germany in their final game on Monday.

Robert Dowd scored on his 109th and final appearance for GB while Ben Bowns also played his last game, having announced his retirement last week.
