Everton boss David Moyes, speaking to Sky Sports: "I know the mentality, we're disappointed it was only a point. Three points would be even better. The position we were in, to come back, we deserved it."

On what was key in twice coming from behind: "The goal we conceded after half-time was disappointing. After that we got in the game and made some opportunities, we missed some opportunities as well. Tyrique scored a really good goal but then we let Man Utd dominate again and allowed them to score a goal."

On importance of scoring: "This stadium has been needing some special moments. Maybe it wasn't special enough today but it was still a big moment for us not to lose. We started with a couple of wins and a couple of draws. You want to build momentum and hopefully the group her will stick together and look after each other and hopefully we keep picking up points."

On Tyrique George: "He's a young player. Today he was a problem for them at different times. His finish was very good when we needed it. He'll get better and continue to improve."

On Ainsley Maitland-Niles: "Our main feeling was we didn't know enough about him since we got him in. We haven't had much chance to get to know him. We were going to keep Jimmy at right-back but he cramped up, but it was a brilliant goal, a great finish. Brilliantly struck, pleased for him. It's a good start for him and it will help him settle in as well."

I think the squads aren’t constructed at the same level. I think what Xabi needs to do, and what he will address, is how he will get the team to play the style that he wants to play.

When you talk about progress, they won the first two games, gave a good account of themselves today, but I’m talking about the communication and you can still see there is a bit of confusion there when they’re on the pitch.

But it was a joy to watch our team play, compete, some huge individual performances as well and the atmosphere in the stadium was great to witness. I'm interested in the way we reacted. We demand another layer of dynamism, threat and aggression and you have seen that today."

On Arsenal's attack: "We miss players for six months, five months, [Bukayo] Saka for three and a half months, Havertz seven months. It was phenomenal the way the team handled that last season."

On Christos Tzolis: "He was unreal again. He has been showing that, the level of threat, the workrate and his decision making are phenomenal to watch."

On David Raya: "That save that he made against Estevao with that individual action. His presence and the way he collects each individual cross are so helpful."

Chelsea don't have European football this season so they're playing less games and can concentrate on the Premier League. But the worry is you're finishing a game against the champions, and you've got two right backs in midfield.

You look at Lavia, who was injured a lot last season. You can look at the front line, of course, they are going to send fear throughout the league but behind that, you see the midfielders and they're playing right-backs there. More and more teams will be seeing the Arsenal game today, seeing that Chelsea will sit in there and get men behind the ball, but there are still spaces through the lines, and I think Arsenal found that out.

Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It wasn't the right start but we certainly reacted in an amazing way. I enjoyed the way we competed; we took risks, it was a joy to watch and an incredible game. They have a great coach who can set them up in great condition. With the quality you have, you feel they can create something out of nothing at any moment. We constrained them well. Overall, it was an incredible performance from our side."

On Martin Odegaard: "I think he is enjoying his football. His personal life is settled, he is available, he is training, he has his routine and if he is intelligent, he can take a lot of benefits from the players around him. I think he was outstanding today."

On winning all three league matches so far and only conceding one goal: "We are very happy and we need to continue to raise the bar and look to improve every single time because there are still a lot of margins to do so. We need to enjoy the victory because it was a big one today."

Everton

Everton's Ainsley Maitland-Niles, speaking to Match of the Day on if this was his best debut: "For sure. Words can't describe how I feel right now. I'm happy to be a Toffee, what a day."

On his goal: "It's up there for sure. Time was running out, we needed a goal. I tried to put as much technique behind it as possible and it managed to go in."

On Everton's fighting spirit to come back: "From the first day you could feel the energy, the fight and the spirit in the building. It's contagious and it always will be playing for Everton."

On what David Moyes said to him: "He said to me get a touch and one of them managed to go in the goal. He just said get as many touches as you can, get on the ball and try to influence the game."

When you've got a player like Martin Odegaard on the team, he's just a joy to watch. He's exciting when he gets on the ball, he's allowing other players to get on the ball, and the connection down the right side between him, Saka and Havertz, it's just good to see when you've got players that know each other and build relationships in that way.

Chelsea

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The assessment and the feeling [is that] it hurts. It hurts to lose. It hurts to suffer our first defeat. It has been a very intense game, a great fight between two sides who have given everything. They have played with the top level of concentration, of intensity. We have tried, we score early, after that Arsenal push us hard and we were struggling a little bit to get control of the ball.

"After the equaliser, it has been quite balanced. We had a couple of chances. It's about details. Once you concede, you need to know it's just one goal. Disappointed that we couldn't take anything from here."

On creating opportunities today: "It was never going to be a game to create 12 opportunities. They are hard to beat, they are hard to create chances [against], but we had 3,4, chances to score more than one goal. This is a process. It's still early days for us. We want to start having clean sheets, they will come. The players are committed to working hard, to knowing that we're on the way to compete in each game. Not happy that we couldn't get anything but we need to keep calm and carry on."

On if it's too early to say whether Chelsea will score a lot but also concede a lot: "It's too early. Time will tell. We want to keep improving in certain areas, we want to keep doing as well as we are doing. Each game is really hard battle and we have fought really hard up to the last minute in the game. It's very important we have this spirit and the team is feeling this spirit. It gives you the strength to win games."

I think the worrying thing for everyone else is that Saliba, who is generally world-class and the best centre back in world football, has not played a minute of football so far this season, and it doesn’t look like anyone can score against them.

Chelsea got the one today, but they didn’t really create one big chance in the game. It was a lot of effort outside the box.

I feel as if [Chelsea] started the game well, but ultimately, you can see that there are few things that need to change for them to be as fluid as they can be.

You can see that the communication isn’t perfect.

They threatened Arsenal at various moments, but I think they are very much leaning into the front three right now, and you can see everything behind them is coming together.

The chemistry is there for the front three, but outside of it, you can see it’s a work in progress.

Chelsea

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, speaking to Sky Sports: "It hurts. It hurts because a defeat has to hurt. It has been a very intense game with different moments for everything. We had chances to equalise. In the first half as well a couple of chances. Never happy if you lose.

"After we scored, there were 15-20 minutes where we had to defend too much and we were struggling a bit to get control. We then had better spells with the ball. Overall, it was a very tight, very intense game. We could do better with the second goal to conceded too early. The guys gave everything, tried everything. It has to hurt.

"It's about preparing the best possible way to compete the best possible way. You need to control the overloads on the right side. It's part of the game to have these actions. We continue. It's game three and this is going to be a long, long ride."

On Chelsea's approach to corners: "You take decisions, you make approaches. We want to be active and take initiative. Sometimes with set pieces, sometimes pressing high or lower. I think that's what you need to compete in all the stages. Today we've come here trying to compete as well as possible now we need to continue."

On what he learnt today about the gap: "I learnt about the game, about us, about what we are doing, what we are starting. The players have this attitude, this desire to compete better game by game to create something we believe in. So far I'm happy. We want to win games, this is the ultimate goal."

On whether he felt short in midfield today: "You need to deal with injuries, the squad are missing the injured player. The ones we had went with full gas. Today they tried their best and have given everything."

Arsenal

Arsenal's Kai Havertz, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's always nice to win at home against a London rival. It was a tough game but over the 90 minutes, we deserved to win that game."

On keeping Chelsea quiet: "They have strong players. They have an amazing squad but so do we. We knew it was going to be tough and it's going to be a tight game. They scored early, so it's not easy for us but we believed in ourselves and changed the game around."

On his goal: "I was happy the ball went through the legs of the defender so it was tough to see the ball for him. Always happy to score."

On Martin Odegaard: "I think he's an unbelievable player, we saw that over the last years. This season, I think he's back to his best. I think he's going to help us a lot this season."

Next up for Arsenal is an away trip to Sunderland on Saturday night while Chelsea host Hull.

Well, you have to start by complimenting Chelsea in terms of the account they gave away from home at the champions.

I felt the team had grit, resilience, they scrapped and they worked really hard.

But the machine that Arsenal is right now is pretty formidable.

They are hitting targets that means they are the best. They added a sparkle, energy and freedom.

Everton

Everton boss David Moyes, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It was no more than what we probably deserved. In the end, we got it.

"A wonderful finish in the last couple of minutes. After we got back one each, that was our chance to step on and try to win the game. I think big moments at this stadium.

"Was today a big moment? A little bit. Sometimes, when you're behind, and you score late goals, it makes a difference. Getting that equaliser was really important. Jack [Grealish] has had very little minutes, so we have got to be mindful of how we do that with him."

Manchester United

Man Utd striker Benjamin Sesko speaking to Sky Sports: “We were just a little bit lucky. It just happens sometimes. It’s important how you face that, what you learn from it, and how you get better for the next match.

“We can also improve, but I think we were still trying to manage the match as well as we could. In the end, we were slipping a little bit. It happens. We can always improve, and that is why we are here: to learn and get better.

On playing Everton: “[Everton] were really intense, especially the last few minutes, where there were a lot of chances. We tried to give everything, tried to block every shot, but then again, sometimes someone shots and it just happens. It was a great goal by the way. It is something that happens and it is important to accept it and react in the next match.

On not starting today: “We have a lot of great players, and a lot of quality, which is very important for this club. Everyone can perform very well, and in the end it’s important that each one of us tries to do their best. To try to achieve the goals and win games. That’s why we are here, and doing what we are doing."
