    Ethan Ampadu played a ball back to Danny Ward early on and it bounced up off the turf a couple of times.

    Certainly one to be wary of tonight.

    It's not just the difference in the rankings but the tournament experience they have in general compared to Wales.

    Craig Bellamy enjoyed a dream start as Wales boss in the previous Nations League campaign two years ago and he would dearly love a return to that form.

    Topping their League B group in 2024 was part of a nine-game unbeaten start in the job, the best of any Wales manager.

    Now however, they are without a victory since November, which is their longest winless run since March 2023.

    The heat is on in more ways than one with the temperature in the stadium tonight hitting 30°.

    Jordan James' whipped cross is turned over by Lewis Koumas, though it does not matter as the offside flag is up anyway.

    Portugal eventually snuff Wales out but that's encouraging for the visitors.

    There's a real carnival atmosphere here in Lisbon.

    Fans have belted out so many anthems, and the Welsh fans have to work incredibly hard to make themselves heard.

    There was a cracking rendition of 'Viva Gareth Bale' shortly before kick-off too.

    I have to say, the noise when Cristiano Ronaldo's name was announced was off the charts.

    As Craig Bellamy said, the 41-year-old is "beyond a superstar".

    Whatever happened with Bellamy has happened. He is now back managing Wales, which I believe is a great thing.

    I'd like to see him now committing for the next two years to try and get us through to the European Championships.

    I think Craig Bellamy had his head turned. If he was happy with his national team, why speak to Burnley multiple times?

    I think he saw an opportunity with a club he knew well, with owners who were very fond of him, and I believe that if all those boxes were ticked, we would have had a different Wales manager tonight.

    The last time Wales faced Portugal in an away game was in 2000. Portugal won 3-0 with Luis Figo scoring one of the goals.

    Playing up front for Wales that day was Craig Bellamy and my co-commentator tonight Iwan Roberts.

    There was an incident in the game where Bellamy, through on goal, could have passed to Iwan who would have had an empty net in front of him.

    “I didn’t see you big man,” is what Bellamy said.

    Fair to say that Iwan still hasn’t forgiven him for that!

    With Pier Cremers and James Rowberry gone, former Wales captain Ashley Williams and ex-Swansea City boss Alan Sheehan have joined Craig Bellamy's staff.

    Match of the Day's Williams has swapped the media room for the dugout - and a smiling Bellamy says that is bad news for the punditry team.
