Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta puffed his cheeks before his interview with BBC's Match of the Day, in recognition of the stern test his side had come through against a Chelsea side he acknowledges were set up well by his good friend Xabi Alonso.

Here is what he said about Arsenal winning their first three league matches while conceding only one goal: "We are very happy and we need to continue to raise the bar and look to improve every single time because there are still a lot of margins to do so. We need to enjoy the victory because it was a big one today."

Something tells me we are not going to reach a consensus on this one.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta did not speak on this, but he did look a relieved man in his post-match interview with BBC's Match of the Day...

Former England international Ashley Young was in agreement with Wayne Rooney and said Arsenal defender Gabriel "got away with one" when he was not punished after kicking Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in the head.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Young said: "The ball is on the floor there and you see Martinez has got it in his hands, but Gabriel kicks so high and kicks him in the head.

"I'm not sure why it's not gone to VAR and they've looked at it properly and studied it because he is nowhere near the ball so I think he has got away with one there."

Could things have been different for Chelsea, though, on Sunday?

Match of the Day pundit Wayne Rooney says Arsenal defender Gabriel was fortunate to stay on the pitch after his challenge on Chelsea' goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

The incident came as Chelsea were defending a free-kick, with Gabriel and Martinez both on the ground in the following scramble.

Gabriel swung his leg, but missed the ball completely and booted Martinez in the head.

Gabriel did not even get booked for the incident.

Let's hear from Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso.

He told BBC Match of the Day about how it "hurts" to lose his first league game since taking charge at Stamford Bridge.

Remember, Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title without suffering a single league defeat - he really does not like to lose:

"The assessment and the feeling [is that] it hurts. It hurts to lose. It hurts to suffer our first defeat. It has been a very intense game, a great fight between two sides who have given everything. They have played with the top level of concentration, of intensity.

"We have tried, we score early, after that Arsenal push us hard and we were struggling a little bit to get control of the ball.

"After the equaliser, it has been quite balanced. We had a couple of chances. It's about details. Once you concede, you need to know it's just one goal. Disappointed that we couldn't take anything from here."

On if it's too early to say whether Chelsea will score a lot but also concede a lot: "It's too early. Time will tell. We want to keep improving in certain areas, we want to keep doing as well as we are doing. Each game is a really hard battle and we have fought really hard up to the last minute in the game. It's very important we have this spirit and the team is feeling this spirit. It gives you the strength to win games."

• Chelsea are the first team in Premier League history to score inside the opening five minutes in each of their first three games of the season.

Wayne Rooney told BBC Match of the Day that Chelsea's midfield puzzle is something manager Xabi Alonso has to "figure out":

"Xabi Alonso has got to figure a way out [of Chelsea's midfield problems] while they have got injuries. [Moises] Caicedo is still to come back into the team...so I think he has got to figure it out and find a way.

"They obviously won their first two games of the season but have come up against Arsenal, the champions. They have seen the level they have to get to and I think they were a little bit off that."

Chelsea ended Sunday's 2-1 defeat by champions Arsenal with two players who began their careers as right-backs alongside each other in midfield.

After spending £349m during the summer transfer window, how did they reach that point?

It was Reece James, who began his career as a right-back, who failed to track captain Martin Odegaard as he scored Arsenal's winner at Emirates Stadium.

In the build-up to his first defeat as Chelsea manager, Xabi Alonso said he believes James can become one of the best midfielders in the world.

James performed well otherwise and spent almost half of last season playing in midfield. But there are legitimate questions about Chelsea's depth in that area after Malo Gusto replaced midfielder Romeo Lavia in the second half.

It was lax marking that led to Odegaard's winner, while a lack of creativity from the bench left Chelsea short as Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta's substitutes ultimately helped guide the hosts to victory.

"Chelsea don't have European football this season so they're playing less games and can concentrate on the Premier League. But the worry is you're finishing a game against the champions, and you've got two right-backs in midfield," Ashley Young told BBC Sport.

"You look at Lavia, who was injured a lot last season. The front line are going to send fear throughout the league but behind that you see the midfield and they're playing right-backs there."

Arsenal do seem to be capitalising on the foundations laid by manager Mikel Arteta over previous seasons, although question marks have been raised about whether they have enough options in attack.

That could be a point we return to down the line, but they had enough to complete the comeback against Chelsea on Sunday.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have a fearsome looking forward line this season, at least in their starting XI, packed with bags of creativity brought by new signing Morgan Rogers and rejuvenated Cole Palmer, who is firing once again under new manager Xabi Alonso.

But can the Blues mount a serious challenge this season with two right-backs in midfield?

John, Chester: Re: Paul - totally agree it’s way too early to be talking about anyone running away with it. City have always won 3/3. However, Liverpool last year when they went 5/5 required multiple late goals in games they didn’t play well in.

Al, Herts: Re Paul from Aylesbury, it could possibly happen again but the difference between the two scenarios is that Liverpool were literally scraping wins. Arsenal look good for their 3 points, and 3 points vs Chelsea yesterday was the correct result not lucky, like some of Liverpool's wins last season.

Manchester United made a 10-match winning start to their First Division campaign in the 1985-86 season.

Ron Atkinson's side were unbeaten from their first 15 games with 41 points as of 2 November, after 13 wins and 2 draws.

They finished that campaign in fourth place, 12 points behind champions Liverpool and Atkinson got the sack, to be replaced by then Aberdeen manager Alex Ferguson, now known as Sir Alex.
