Manchester United midfielder Ella Toone has been speaking to BBC One: "It’s been good. I think we’re getting better each week. It's really nice to go into the break on the back of a win.

"The first two games weren’t how we wanted them to go. We want to put on performances and get the three points. We have built on the performance at Arsenal and the League Cup has been good for confidence and scoring goals.

"We know this is a project and we need to work hard. This league is really difficult and anyone can beat anyone."

On not making the England squad: It's been a really difficult week - not the news any footballer wants. But I've got good people around me. The manager played me today so that shows the belief she has.

"It's about me now. I've got to keep working hard and use it as fuel to come back even better. The main thing is I am enjoying my football and that’s when I play my best. I'll use the international break to reset, get my mind focused and then we’ll go again."

  2. 'Disappointment' for Liverpoolpublished at 15:42 BST

I can imagine Gareth Taylor will be really happy with first four games and performances in general. I feel like today they just lacked a bit of intensity. The press wasn't there.

But they're still building those relationships, those connections. There will be disappointment as they had chances, more than Manchester United. A lot to work on moving forward.

  3. 'Something to learn from'published at 15:41 BST

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Grace Fisk speaking to the BBC: "We're really disappointed. I think we're disappointed with the performance most of all. We played some really nice football in the first half this season and been dominant in games but for whatever reason we couldn't find our feet today. Credit to them they were very direct. We had chances and they defended around their box really well.

"It wasn't to be today and we're very disappointed to leave with nothing.

"Gaz [Gareth Taylor] is big on performane and he's pretty disappointed with how we played because we played at such a high level when we've showed so many times how dominant we can be against some teams.

"For whatever reason, we didn't do that. We played their game more than our game. They were very aggressive, very direct. We couldn't get our foot on the ball and we rushed into some decisions and kicked long when really we should try and find solutions. It's something to learn from definitely."

    FT: Manchester United 1-0 Liverpool

Not much in it, in the end. Liverpool were not at their best but will still rue missed chances.

The xG shows that had the better opportunities but that early goal meant they were always up against it.

For Manchester United, the only stat that matters is the final score but they defended solidly for the most part and with some sharper passing and better decision making, could've added to the lead.

    FT stats: Man Utd 1-0 Liverpool, possession 50.9 v 49.1, shots 9 v 15, on target 3 v 8, xG 0.6 v 1.4

Manchester United's player of the match Julia Zigiotti Olme, speaking to BBC One: "I'm so happy with the three points. Very important win for us but it was a hard game.

"We want to start the game quick and hope they are not prepared and that's what happened today, so very happy about that.

"We have grown confidence in how we play. It was new when Eva [Olid] came but we have grown a lot of confidence in training, in the games, we had two cup games a lot of players could play and we kept going."

  7. 'Man Utd showed a never say die attitude'published at 15:30 BST

Liverpool did put Man Utd under pressure at times. Phallon Tullis-Joyce made some brilliant saves. It was a brilliant defensive display and brilliant goal from Julia Zigiotti Olme in the first half.

I think it's an accumulation of what Eva Olid is trying to tell them, trying to implement that philosophy and culture. And also that togetherness, that grit and determination and that never say die attitude that they have been known for for so many years under Marc Skinner.

It's great for them to get a clean sheet under their belt at home and to go into the international break as well.

That's it, Manchester United hold on to take the three points.

Julia Zigiotti Olme's goal after an error from Khiara Keating proves the difference.

Liverpool had their chances but weren't clinical enough when they came, although it must be said that Phallon Tullis-Joyce impressed in goal for United.

No other goalkeeper in the WSL looks to waste time as much as Tullis-Joyce. It’s infuriating to watch.

She rushes across and closes that window on how much time she has to shoot.
