Late goal helps Birmingham snatch Palace draw in six-goal thriller

Suzu Amano's dramatic 87th-minute equaliser helped Birmingham City secure a point after a six-goal thriller against Crystal Palace in the Women's Super League.

Birmingham had taken the lead after just 40 seconds when the visitors, who were thumped 7-0 by Tottenham last weekend, were punished for some sloppy play.

Defender Allyson Swaby's poor pass was intercepted by Lee Geum-Min, who slipped in Oceane Hurtre and she stylishly curled the ball into the top corner with the outside of her boot.

Palace equalised on the half-hour mark when Blues goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley got herself in a tangle and allowed Shanade Hopcroft's long free-kick to bounce over her head.

The Eagles were only on level terms for three minutes, as French forward Hurtre chased a long ball, outmuscled Jamie-Lee Napier and exquisitely finished from a tight angle across goal and into the net.

Palace, though, drew level for a second time when Baggaley tipped Sierra Enge's chip on to the bar and Bethany England pounced on the rebound to stab home.

They got their noses in front when Lexi Lloyd-Smith picked the pocket of Marie Levasseur on the left flank after the Blues defender slipped, before cutting inside and finishing clinically.

However, Birmingham ensured they claimed a share of the points when Japanese midfielder Amano swept the ball home from inside the box following a counter-attack.

They remain winless after four games and are third from bottom in the table on two points, while Palace are eighth.
