As ever, the Championship is unpredictable - and young, untested Ed Still is getting a tune out of his Watford side.

But the rest of the teams in the play-off race won't want the Hornets to hog all the glory this weekend.

We will be back tomorrow to see if our other promotion contenders can respond plus a mammoth contest at the bottom of the table between managerless West Bromwich Albion and Matt Bloomfield's Oxford United.

    Come join us, won't you?

Please god…Lansdown sell the club. Please, please, when will people actually realise we have replaced creativity with average, there is no ambition at all. Please, please realise this! Utterly bewildered Bristol City fan.

    Simon, Warrington

City have only one fit centre back in the club and it really showed tonight. This season has been wrecked by injuries.

  4. 'We have to be honest - there's a gap'published at 22:40 GMT 27 February

    FT: Bristol City 1-2 Watford

    Bristol City

Bristol City boss Gerhard Struber speaking to BBC Radio Bristol on how 'small details' affected the Robins performance:

"I am really frustrated and we expected a different result in the end, and a big loss is really painful.

"The control of the game was good, but some small details such as decision making. We were not lucky with the last decision that we did, and how do bring a player into a better position with a higher chance to score.

"Then how we gave away the goals was really cheap and it is really hard to describe. It is all small things - typical Championship.

"When you want to be in the play-off spots you have to win games in a row more and more times, and we must be honest with ourselves that this is a gap.

"We have to be better and we have to improve, how we bring a clean sheet home and how we score on a different level."

  5. 'Clarity is the missing link'published at 22:38 GMT 27 February

Bristol City boss Gerhard Struber speaking to Sky Sports:

"Football is not always fair. Especially with the first goal, how they got it was so cheap.

"We should create in this momentum phase a benefit for ourselves. In the end, you have to bring something out. I feel sorry for the boys that we cannot create.

"The Championship is very tight. You have to be clear in the big moments and I think today this was the missing link.

"The play-off race is until the end. You have to win, especially at home, and you need to be consistent. We have to improve that."

Abankwah absolutely outstanding tonight. Deserved win. Nullified most Bristol attacks and the four that got through Selvik saved three.

  7. 'Ngakia deserves his brilliant goal'published at 22:33 GMT 27 February

    Bristol City 1-2 Watford

    Watford

Watford boss Ed Still speaking to BBC Radio 3CR on the match winning goal from Jeremy Ngakia:

"That was brilliant, you just think what a worldie, what a goal that is…

"He deserves it for his workrate, his professionalism and he’s starting to build confidence in his body after a tricky period with injuries and niggles."

  8. 'Players have responded to my message'published at 22:30 GMT 27 February

Watford boss Ed Still speaking to Sky Sports:

"Everyone knows what a difficult place this is to come to and we earnt ourselves a win.

"We got a bit lucky with the second half... but we made that luck.

"All credit goes to the players. They have responded to my message. We've put a lot into attitude and teamwork and they've responded to that.

"It's my job to work out what profiles we've got and how to get the best out of those profile in no time at all.

"I think tonight, of the four games, was the best performance.

"There was a feeling from day one [that they could get into the play-offs].

"We are going to compete to try and get into the play-offs in the end of the season. We are doing everything we can."

"Monster" result for Watford. Again, the Championship showing that the only thing you can predict is its unpredictability.

  10. 'No momentum after equaliser'published at 22:24 GMT 27 February

    FT: Bristol City 1-2 Watford

    Gary Owers
Former Sunderland & Bristol City midfielder on BBC Radio Bristol

Watford got Bristol City in a position that was comfortable, and they were able to just attack City on the counter-attack.

I wouldn't say it was an amazing performance, but the goal in the first half really dampened down the crowd and the atmosphere.

It is about how you respond in those situations, and they did get the equaliser.

But, once they got the equaliser you thought there would be some momentum - but nothing really happened.

Watford gave Bristol City a taste of their own medicine, by sitting back, soaking up pressure and then attacking on the break.

Another opportunity for Bristol City to win back-to-back games passes them by, and there won't be many opportunities left inside Ashton Gate this season.

There are some flags being waved about after the game by the home fans, but it is a pretty damp atmosphere, on a very damp night.

Another season in the Championship all our own doing.

    Chris, Devon

City’s final third quality wasn’t there tonight, makes a massive difference, you can have all the possession you want but if you don’t make the most of it you’ll get punished in this league.

  13. 'Still has brought us some new energy'published at 22:16 GMT 27 February

    FT: Bristol City 1-2 Watford

    Watford

Watford right-back Jeremy Ngakia speaking to Sky Sports:

"I know we've had a lot of changes but I think we've stuck together.

"He's [boss Ed Still] brought us some new energy. You can see on the pitch what we are doing and I want to keep it up.

"I'm tired of us not pushing at this time of the season and we are doing it now."

  14. 'Contrasting reactions tell a story'published at 22:12 GMT 27 February

The race for the play-offs is far from over but seeing the reaction from both sets of players at full-time shows how much every point - especially against one of your nearest rivals - means at this stage in the season.

The rain had started coming down but the Watford players were jumping and dancing in front of their raucous fans at the away end.

By contrast the Robins players were walking around, mostly on their own, mostly to an empty stadium with so many of the home fans heading for the exit before the whistle knowing the game was up.

  15. Watford up five placespublished at 22:10 GMT 27 February

    FT: Bristol City 1-2 Watford

    Champ table

That lone green arrow above all those many red arrows looks nice, doesn't it Hornets fans?

Watford sail up five places to seventh with just three points (and a few goals) keeping them out the play-off spots.

Bristol City, meanwhile, go down to ninth and may find themselves even lower by the end of the weekend.

Same old Bristol City we just don’t have the ambition to go all the way. It comes from above!

    Simon, Dumfries

Yet again we should not sell best players - five seasons now we get in a positive position for promotion and sell our best players. Steve Lansdown stop selling players - you want Bristol City in the Premier League... we would be there by now.

  17. 'Huge positive energy for us'published at 22:03 GMT 27 February

    FT: Bristol City 1-2 Watford

    Watford

Watford striker Luca Kjerrumgaard speaking to Sky Sports:

"This was a huge win, we needed this. I'm so happy for the fans.

"It's always good to come and lead quick in the game. I think that pushed us in the game. We struggled a little bit after but I think it showed our character.

"It's a huge positive energy for us. I think we can look forward to beat Wrexham at home, we are just excited."

  18. 'Watford deserved the victory'published at 21:59 GMT 27 February

    FT: Bristol City 1-2 Watford

    Derek Payne
Former Watford midfielder on BBC Three Counties Radio

Watford deserved the victory and they had to show both sides of how to win football matches they had to be resilient and strong, and out of possession they had to be very good.

Then in the second half they were the better team and they had more possession. Watford controlled the game. They deserved the win tonight.

Bristol City struggled throughout the second half to deal with Watford when they didn't have possession.

Jeremy Ngakia's super strike keeps Watford's promotion dream alive to the detriment of hosts Bristol City.

The games seemed in the Robins' hands but Ngakia produced magic when it counted and the visitors held strong to see it out an important win in the play-off race.

It sees them fly above Bristol City on the table, with just three points separating them and sixth place before the Saturday's action gets underway.

Huge win for the Hornets but more bitter disappointment at Ashton Gate for the home team.

    It's soon dealt with though.

    Think this might be it.
