Roy Hodgson won his first two games in charge

Roy Hodgson's winning start to his second Bristol City spell ended with a frustrating draw at Queens Park Rangers.

The visitors dominated early on and created enough chances to win, but QPR goalkeeper Joe Walsh kept them at bay.

Meanwhile, the hosts extended their unbeaten run to five games.

But both sides will be frustrated as their already slim hopes of making the Championship play-offs look over with the gap to the top six now eight points.

It was a slow start, but Jonathan Varane squandered a decent early opening for Rangers when he failed to connect with an Amadou Mbengue cross from the right.

He chested the ball into keeper Radek Vitek's path, when meaningful contact could have tested him.

At the other end, Walsh was forced into the first save after 15 minutes, stopping a low Mark Sykes low effort after a short corner created space at the edge of the area.

QPR offered little in attack and City were the side making most of the running.

After thwarting Scott Twine from distance, Walsh made a double save to deny Sykes and Emil Riis in the area on the stroke of half-time.

Soon after, Walsh was on hand to parry Twine strike from distance after the Bristol City man found space on the edge of the area.

As the game approached the hour mark, QPR began to find their feet. Rayan Kolli's low cross eventually found Paul Smyth, but he could only slice the ball over the bar.

After struggling in the first half, Rangers were looking the more likely as the minutes ticked by, but a lack of cutting edge ultimately cost both sides.

'It was difficult for both teams' - Stephan

QPR boss Julien Stephan told BBC Radio London: "It was a tight game between well-organised teams. It was difficult for both sides to find the space.

"When we had opportunities, there were technical issues in the last third with finding the last pass or a good finish.

"It is a clean sheet. The last one was Charlton over two months ago.

"It is a good run for us, five games unbeaten. We knew Bristol City were a good opponent in good form. We didn't find a way today but we continue the process."

'It was a fair result' - Hodgson

Bristol City interim manager Roy Hodgson told BBC Radio Bristol: "It was a cancelling out process. They're organised and made it difficult for us to get in behind just as we did for them.

"It opened up more in the second half, we were more adventurous. We could have scored a goal or two, but 0-0 was fair result because neither team really did enough.

"[Staying solid] is a key priority in any team. Any time you come into a new club, you must hope to get ideas across about not conceding many goals.

"If you do that, you've got an incredible bunch of front players who can score to get you out of trouble."
