Charlton Athletic and Queens Park Rangers missed out on the chance to go top of the Championship after playing out a goalless draw at The Valley.

In a London derby light on clear-cut chances, neither side could break the deadlock with the match repeating the 0-0 scoreline from the last time they met in February.

QPR dominated possession and created more chances but were unable to deliver a knockout punch, while the hosts had the ball in the net late in the first half only for Tyreece Campbell's effort to be ruled out for offside.

Both sides were looking to bounce back from their first league defeats of the season on Saturday. The draw left QPR fourth in the table, while Charlton climbed two places to fifth.

The visitors will feel they did enough to win the game having dominated 72 per cent of possession as well as playing better build-up football in the middle of the park but they lacked a cutting edge.

Harvey Vale had a curling effort drift narrowly wide from 20 yards after 22 minutes, while Paul Smyth put their best chance too close to Charlton goalkeeper Arthur Okwonkwo when through one-on-one just after the hour.

QPR boss Julian Stephan was also left counting the cost of two more injuries just four days after losing Ilias Chair and Richard Kone against Middlesbrough as Tariq Lamptey and Jimmy Dunne limped off the field.

For the home side there were positives not least in the clean sheet after a 4-0 mauling at Stoke City at the weekend. Despite seeing less of the ball, Charlton also had opportunities to win a match which offered the winners the chance to go top.

Charlton striker Miles Leaburn, who was withdrawn as a precaution at half-time after pulling up late in the first half, could have put them in front after six minutes but headed wide from a corner kick.

After 40 minutes Campbell raced on to a through ball from Oliver Skipp and finished expertly from the edge of the box but the goal was disallowed after he was ruled offside.
