Chelsea miss out on automatic qualification for the Champions League league phase
Sam Kerr scored in her final game for Chelsea as the Blues beat Manchester United 1-0, but they were unable to claim second place in the Women's Super League table.
Arsenal's 3-1 win at Liverpool means Chelsea finish third. They miss out on automatic qualification for the league phase of the Champions League and will instead have to compete in play-offs.
While United started well with quick football in the final third that caused issues for Chelsea at the back, it was the hosts who managed to snatch the game's only goal.
Kerr rounded off her Chelsea career in style by meeting a Lauren James cross and whipping a near-post volley past Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
Before that, Chelsea's chances had been limited with James producing a tame shot while one-on-one with the goalkeeper and Ellie Carpenter seeing a cross bounce unexpectedly off the far post.
Chelsea improved after taking the lead but the visitors came out with a sense of urgency after the break and Ellen Wangerheim sent a header crashing off the post for United's best chance.
Kerr ends her Chelsea career level with Fran Kirby on 116 goals in the list of the club's all-time top scorers.

Analysis: Disappointing seasons come to an end

Sam Kerr joined Chelsea in 2020
Both of these sides' seasons finish with a feeling of disappointment.
Chelsea accomplished an unbeaten campaign in the WSL last year and won their sixth successive title. This year, they finished third and have only won the League Cup.
A lack of depth coupled with a number of serious injuries has hampered, leaving the Blues unable to compete on multiple fronts.
That it was the departing Kerr who scored the only goal on Saturday shows that they need to strengthen their attacking line over the summer.
They finish the campaign six points behind winners Manchester City and two adrift of second-placed Arsenal.
For United, the latter part of the season leaves much to be desired.
Marc Skinner's side won just one of their last 10 games in all competitions, were knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals and have failed to qualify for Europe next year.
They have been unable to maintain competition with the rest of the top four as they have slipped off the pace in the past couple of months.
Not having to deal with games in Europe next season, and therefore having a less crowded fixture schedule, could potentially be a blessing as they try to rebuild.
Following a game where they failed to score, it is also apparent that they need to be better in front of goal to restore a clinical edge and reclaim a spot at the top. They end the season having drawn seven of their matches, the most of any side in the division.
