Southend United beat Wealdstone in a penalty shootout to win the FA Trophy at Wembley.

After a goalless stalemate in the 90 minutes, Shrimpers goalkeeper Collin Andeng-Ndi saved Wealdstone's first two penalties to put his side in control.

Stones keeper Dante Baptiste kept the shootout alive when he stopped Charley Kendall's effort but the Shrimpers were clinical with their remaining spot-kicks and Gus Scott-Morriss slotted home to secure a 4-2 victory.

Southend had finished sixth in the National League - losing in the play-offs to Scunthorpe - with Wealdstone 15th.

Southend got off to a fast start - rattling the post inside 10 minutes as Harry Cardwell broke into the box and drilled a right-footed effort against the upright.

Wealdstone grew into the first half but were caught on the counter by Southend after 20 minutes.

Leon Parillon released Cardwell, who appeared to be tripped but referee Farai Hallam waved away appeals for a foul or potential card.

The Stones came close with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Dominic Hutchinson fizzed a ball into the feet of Micah Obiero, who produced some smart footwork before curling an effort past the far post.

Just before the break they had their best chance of the game as Anthony Georgiou let fly with a thunderous strike from the edge of the box, taking a deflection and forcing a sharp save from Andeng-Ndi.

Wealdstone added to their attacking momentum after the break, with Obiero having a shot saved from inside the box just before the hour mark.

Southend struck the bar with just over 10 minutes remaining, when Keenan Appiah-Forson sprinted down to the byline and chipped the ball across the penalty area.

Obiero then had an effort blocked in the box as a smart touch took him away from a Southend defender before his shot was deflected behind for a corner.

The Stones got off to the worst possible start in the penalty shootout as Olufela Olomola and Jack Hinchy had their penalties saved by Andeng-Ndi.

Baptiste kept out Kendall's spot-kick, but Harry Boyes scored the Shrimpers' next to pave the way for Scott-Morriss' trophy-winning penalty.
