New Barrow boss Adam Murray claims the club must win back their fans' trust because they have lost their identity following relegation.

Barrow dropped out of the EFL on the final day of the campaign after six years in League Two following a traumatic campaign that saw five head coaches come and go.

Murray, who left Kidderminster Harriers to sign a two-year contract at Barrow on Tuesday, knows the Bluebirds lost their way and says he must reconnect with the fans.

"The chats I've had with people already here, one of the main things we've got to do is build that trust back," Murray told BBC Radio Cumbria. "We've got to build that connection back.

"The fans need to see their team back. They need to see their club back. They need to see an identity they can connect with and be proud of and make sure, especially here, when teams rock up, they know they're going to be in for a fight.

"Being brutal, I think identity to this place is key and it's been missing for a while. I want to bring that back.

"I'm looking forward to connecting with the fans and I'm looking forward to building, not just a team, but a football club they can admire and be proud of again."

Murray, 44, who will face Kidderminster in the National League next season after winning promotion with the Midlands club, admits any players who do not fit his plan can leave.

"A big part for me is I want people here that want to be here," he added. "I want people here who want to commit to the cause.

"I want people here that have got desire and hunger to right the wrongs of last season and to get the club back where it's been.

"I'm not going to beat around the bush, if there are people who don't want to be here, that's fine.

"We need people with big hearts and big desires to go and win and win consistently.

"It's great having good players, good players win you football matches, but just having good players doesn't win your titles.

"You've got to have a mentality. You've got to have a hunger to be successful and if you've not got that desire, then you're not going to work for me."
