England's Truman takes silver in men's time trial

England cyclist Joseph Truman won silver in a record-breaking men's 1,000m time trial at the Commonwealth Games.

Truman put in a solid ride throughout but he couldn't beat the speed of Australian Leigh Hoffman, who broke the Commonwealth Games record with a stunning time of 58.530 seconds.

England team-mate Harry Ledingham-Horn, who had topped the standings after 11 riders with a time of 1:00.039, was pushed out of the medals to fourth.

He was beaten to the bronze by just over 40 seconds by Australian Tayte Ryan, who also beat the Englishman to the third-placed medal in the men's sprint.

Meanwhile, Hamish Turnbull got off to a quick start, clocking the third quickest opening 250m with a time of 18.637, but his speed began to drop off to leave him down in eighth.

Another Commonwealth Games record was broken earlier in the session after England's Matthew Robertson put in a time of 3:25.655 in the men's C1-C3 3000m individual pursuit qualification.

However, his record did not last long as Scotland's Fin Graham put in a blistering ride of 3:22.921.

The two will face off for the gold medal in the afternoon session at approximately 15:27 BST.
