    Athapaththu c Wyatt-Hodge b Dean 4 (Eng 22-2)

    She can do no wrong!

  2. Postpublished at 20:41 BST

Just the one over for Linsey Smith as England turn to Charlie Dean, perhaps thinking of keeping Smith away from the left-handed Athapaththu.

  3. SL 22-1published at 3 overs

    Target 220

Having just taken that wicket, Lauren Bell loses her radar slightly with a couple of wides to the new batter Imesha Dulani, before a short ball is pummelled through the off side for another boundary.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.1 overs

    Vishmi lbw b Bell 6 (SL 14-1)

    As plumb as you like.

Vishmi Gunarathne shuffles across her stumps and is pinned in front trying to whip the ball into the leg side.

Yet again, Lauren Bell sets the tone for England in the powerplay.

  5. SL reviewpublished at 2.1 overs

    Big lbw shout... and given!

But Vishmi reviews with a second to spare. I think this is optimistic.

  6. SL 14-0published at 2 overs

    Target 220

A couple of more nicely-timed shots down the ground, but Smith's got her field set for it so long-off and long-on are kept busy.

  7. SL 12-0published at 1.2 overs

Early intent from the Sri Lankan skipper against Linsey Smith's left-arm spin.

She really gets hold of it, but somehow the ball plugs in the outfield and they can only run two! Athapaththu shakes her head in disbelief after 20 overs of watching England's batters find the boundary with ease.

  8. How's stat?!published at 20:30 BST

Record-breaking knock from Danni Wyatt-Hodge to register her third T20I century. She scored 36 (20) with the drive, 23 (13) with cut shots and 20 (9) with pull shots - scoring all-round the wicket in front of square.

    Lovely shot for Vishmi.

Outside the off stump and beautifully driven.

  10. SL 9-0published at 1 over

    Target 220

    Lovely shot.

Vishmi Gunaratne drives sweetly through the covers, before Lauren Bell loses her line to the left-handed Athapaththu and the ball races away for four leg byes.

  11. SL 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Vishmi Gunaratne opens up with Athapaththu, and Bell draws a leading edge with her first ball but it lands safely.

Unsurprisingly, England are all smiles and have a spring in their step as they stride back out to a glorious Edgbaston which is bathed in evening sunshine.

Lauren Bell, who has been the most consistent bowler of the summer so far, has the ball in hand.

One of those players, Chamari Athapaththu, is making her way to the middle now as Sri Lanka face the very daunting task of chasing 220 to win.

She was visibly frustrated in the field as the bowlers lost control, but her team need her to lead from the front now if they are to get anywhere near this total.

Century-scorer Danni Wyatt-Hodge on Sky Sports: "I still can't believe it. It's always a really nice wicket here at Edgbaston. First game, obviously a few nerves around. We really wanted to start well and we did with 220 runs on the board. Can't ask for more than that."

On opening partnership: "Amy [Jones] has been batting really well over the last few weeks and we know how good she is. She's had a few different roles in this T20 team and she's shown she can bat anywhere in the line-up and she's so chill and calm."

This might not be the best bowling attack England will face - but you can't really ask much more of them than that!

    Thanks, Tim.

Well, talk about making a statement! Yes, England will know that they've got tougher challenges to come, but what a way to start the tournament with confidence.

Records galore today, this is now England's highest total in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

  20. Eng 219-1published at 20 overs

Danni Wyatt-Hodge biffs Malki Madara down the ground off the final delivery of the innings.

It falls just short of the rope and six but has enough on it to cross the boundary for four.

    A commanding total from England.
