  1. NZ 64-0published at 19 overs

My colleague Timothy Abraham chipping in under Gary's comment - he has played cricket in around 50 countries.

Meanwhile I've confined my cricket to the United Kingdom, and frankly that's one country too many.

Three runs off Shoaib Bashir's latest effort, with the spinner 0-16 off five overs thus far.

England's seamers have induced 20% false shots in the first 15 overs. By comparison, they got 33% and 28% false shots in their first 15 overs of the first innings in their previous two matches.

A beautiful ground in Corfu, Darren, where cricket has been played for over 200 years.

  4. NZ 61-0published at 18 overs

Tom Latham takes a single off the first ball of Josh Tongue's over and Devon Conway fails to score off the remaining five deliveries.

Conway has 23 off 61 balls, while Latham has a somewhat quicker 35 from 48.

It's set up for Stokes to take a wicket with his first ball, isn't it?

  6. NZ 60-0published at 17 overs

New Zealand chip away at Shoaib Bashir, with four runs coming off the spinner's four over.

  7. NZ 56-0published at 16 overs

After 18 balls without a run, Tom Latham adds to New Zealand's score.

He sends Josh Tongue's final ball square for two.

Adelaide for the Ashes last year. 40 degrees, shade gone at 11.30. Spent the whole day at the back where it was easily 45 due to no wind. Best part of the day was getting back to the motel and jumping in the green pool.

    Scott, Melbourne

Adelaide 2002 - slightly hungover and absolutely roasting. Not much shade at the Oval back then. And England got thrashed.

    Ben, Penarth

Adelaide 2010 - the hottest I’ve ever been 40c+ each day and no shade. Was worth the suffering (and sun burn) to see us record a famous victory

    Steve, Bedfordshire

  9. NZ 54-0published at 15 overs

We have maidens either side of the drinks break as Shoaib Bashir gets us going again with six dots to Devon Conway.

  10. From the press box...published at 12:05 BST

James Coyne, The Cricketer Magazine: Incredible stat that Shoaib Bashir (after just three Tests) is England's leading Test wicket-taker at Trent Bridge among spinners - 16 wickets, compared to 14 for Jim Laker and Derek Underwood. Trent Bridge was known for its flat pitch in the post-War era.

  11. drinks break

    NZ 54-0published at 14 overs

A second maiden in a row for Josh Tongue, to Tom Latham this time.

We head into drinks - and hey, England have bowled 14 overs in the hour, will wonders never cease?

That's in part because England have introduced a spinner very early in the match on day one.

Alice in Surrey watching cricket at The OvalImage source, BBC Sport

My hottest day at the cricket was probably last week watching day three in the front row of the (very sunny) Laker Balcony at The Oval. Currently eight months pregnant. Might have cooked the baby a bit, not sure of the NHS advice on this. Worth it to watch every ball.

    Alice, Surrey

Was stationed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with the Royal Air Force. Used to play cricket on concrete strips with a gravel outfield in temperatures of 40 degrees plus.

    Chris, Wolverhampton

Playing in France, Samaur cricket ground overlooked by castle 40 degrees plus. It was a case of mad dogs and Englishmen in the midday sun with quizzical looks from the French.

  13. NZ 54-0published at 13 overs

Three runs off Shoaib Bashir's second over, with Devon Conway adding two into the covers.

What a great toss to win. Flay the fielders, roast them and then bowl under humid conditions. Going to be very tricky.

    Andy, Brighouse

As soon as I saw that NZ had won the toss I knew we were in for a long day. Bowling in this weather can’t be easy!

    Adam, Birmingham

I think it's going to be a looooooooooonnnnnngggggg day in the field for England.

    Norman, Milford

  15. NZ 51-0published at 12 overs

After conceding nine runs in his first over, Josh Tongue has a better time in his second.

He sends down a maiden to Devon Conway.

Oval, July 1983, England v New Zealand with no shade. I was reduced to pouring pints of water over my head every 20 minutes and drying out inside 10 minutes. Alan Lamb ran out Ian Botham too.

    Gregory, London

I can't be the only one to have had sunburnt knees at a Test at Old Trafford? Fed and hydrated, hat and sun cream on, yet the sun catches you out from behind. Sat between the players and media centre, and the new hotel, like a charred Nobby Stiles.

    Will, Ribble Valley

Day three and four in Sydney in 2018 were the hottest I’ve ever been, not just cricket! Was even hotter in the middle for Joe Root!

New Zealand's batters have pounced on anything overpitched so far.

In the first 10 overs England's pacers bowled 11 deliveries on a length of 3m or fuller, conceding 28 runs. In comparison, the remaining 49 deliveries pitched at 6m or shorter went for just 17 runs.

That's turned really nicely. It's a lovely seam position from Shoaib Bashir. He gets himself really upright drags his fingers down the side of the ball and it does turn outside the off stump.

  19. NZ 51-0published at 11 overs

Here's Shoaib Bashir as England make changes at both ends - the spinner is back after missing the second Test and not having bowled in the first on a seam-friendly pitch at Lord's.

A Devon Conway chip into the covers just passes Joe Root, before Tom Latham brings up New Zealand's fifty with a swept boundary behind square.

Hottest day at cricket was in Bridgetown, Barbados. Was on holiday there and bought cheap ground tickets rather than pay for packages in the UK in advance. In the open all day with the West Indies supporters. Put on plenty of sun cream but forgot my lips.

    Neil, Penrith

Hottest for me, Perth 2010 Ashes.. 42c+ In a temp unshaded stand! Plenty of Slip, Slap, Slop IYKYK.

    Mark Telford

41 degrees on the second day of the Adelaide Test in December 2025. By 4pm all the Aussies were going home due to the heat, the only ones left were England supporters! It was seriously warm and we were in the shade most of the day....
