So as it stands, Leicestershire will be playing Division Two cricket in 2027 - but that is subject to the outcome of an appeal against the 27-point deduction that was imposed upon the Foxes for breaching pitch regulations.

Leicestershire were punished for producing a playing surface rated as "poor" for the game against Glamorgan last month. An independent panel gave them an eight-point penalty, while they also lost the 19 points they gained in that victory.

If their appeal does not result in that sanction being reduced or removed, Leicestershire will be relegated.

Somerset take the new ball after 80 overs but it doesn't do them any good in the first Craig Overton over.

The ball sneaks down the leg side and James Rew can't stop it going for four byes before Ben Foakes cracks a four with the new cherry which is moving off the bat a lot quicker of course.

Please forgive us if our maths are wrong on this, but in an attempt to answer Mo's question earlier (16:20 BST), the tie-breakers for teams that end level on points are as follows:

• Most wins
• Fewest losses
• Head-to-head record (only for teams that have played each other twice)
• Most wickets taken
• Most runs scored

The only possible way now for Leicestershire and Essex to finish level on points is if Leicestershire win and Essex lose.

That would leave both sides with four wins, but Leicestershire would have lost six matches and Essex eight.

Therefore, the head-to-head record would not come into the equation.

This is all, of course, pending the outcome of Leicestershire's appeal against a 27-point deduction.

Derbyshire have lost their third wicket replying to Worcestershire's 214 all out.

Matt Montgomery is caught behind for nine from a beautiful leg-cutter by Ben Allison, who has 2-16 from six overs so far.
