That's it from us after England made a winning start to their T20 summer - just what they were after with the T20 World Cup around the corner.

Alice Capsey was the star with an unbeaten 74 and you can read Ffion Wynne's report on an impressive showing from Charlotte Edwards' side in Derby here.

We'll be back as New Zealand try to bounce back in the second T20 at Canterbury, England will be aiming to wrap up the series. Join us on Saturday afternoon for that one!

New Zealand will know where they went wrong. England should have been chasing more - they need to find more, they can't just rely on Sophie Devine.

  3. 'It's a cool position to be in'published at 21:28 BST 20 May

England captain Charlie Dean: "It was brilliant to star the series like that. Lauren Bell and Linsey Smith were exceptional. To put in a fielding performance like that is something we can be really proud with. To finish with two batters not out, Alice Capsey and Freya Kemp were exceptional.

"I think it's a privileged position to have some many good bowlers. Then we can adapt and see what's working on the surface. It's a cool position to be in.

"I think the batting just keeps growing in this T20 format. It's brilliant to have competition between places, I guess that makes selection even harder."

  4. 'You don't want to play your best game now'published at 21:27 BST 20 May

New Zealand captain Melie Kerr: "Probably not enough runs. I thought 140 would have given us a chance to get into the game. But that middle stage after Sophie [Devine] got out, it looked hard to score for our group. We would have loved 150 or 160."

On Suzie Bates' role: "We've got a long batting order with someone like her batting at nine.

"She didn't get the overs today but on another day she might be a four-over bowler. It's a bit of a role switch for her but someone with so much experience, she's willing to take on whatever is best for the group."

On Bree Illing: "It's nice having a left-armer in the side, a point of difference. She swings the ball up front and she's just a wicket-taker. She got a ball in her that can get out any batter in the world so batters are a bit wary facing her. It's exciting to have someone like that in your squad."

On improvements for the second T20: "More runs helps but after the way Sophie played after losing two in the powerplay, to get us to a pretty good powerplay. Scoring off more balls, there were too many dot balls and not enough boundaries.

"We strung together some good overs and released it at times. You don't want to play your best game now but it's a loss that hurts so we want to bounce back quickly."

  5. 'Just about taking in the opportunity'published at 21:23 BST 20 May

Player of match, England's Alice Capsey: "Completely new role, so I guess with this England team at the minute, there's such competition for spots, it's just taking whatever opportunity you can get, it's always nice to take it. So yeah, completely new role, just about taking in the opportunity I guess. I've had some really good conversations with Sophia Dunkley over the last couple of days, she's definitely settled the nerves. It's always nice to get the first win out of the bag.

"Anything pace on was pretty nice. Anything where slower balls were used, Melie got a few to hold, that felt like the harder ball to hit I guess. Anything with pace was lovely, anything with width was even better.

"Lots of hard work. That three-month block at the beginning of the year was amazing, just to get some proper skills development, which I've probably not had for the last couple of years. I've worked on quite a few different areas of my game, I feel really comfortable at the crease, really calm - I think it showed today, I think I was two off eight, and just that composure to know I can catch up and really believe that as well. I've been amazingly supported from the staff here, to put that into practice today was really nice.

"First go with that bat so I think I'll be keeping that for the rest of the series!"

England extend their winning streak against New Zealand to eight wins on the bounce.

Alice Capsey's innings was near faultless, playing in control with 90% of the deliveries she played today.

It felt like it was a blueprint with England batting. I think that's what Charlotte Edwards will be most happy about. Their first T20 in around 12 months, and to do it against a New Zealand side with that quality.

Perhaps not the toughest of chases but, with Nat Sciver-Brunt out, this feels like an important one for England at the start of a big summer.

Proving they can chase so calmly and effectively without their skipper and star batter against the T20 world champions will give them confidence moving forward.

At the halfway stage, I felt like New Zealand didn't have enough on the board. England were dominant, Alice Capsey outstanding for her 74, backed up really nicely by Freya Kemp.

Only a few batters had their timing on this wicket, but England did the hard work, taking consistent wickets through the first innings.

Alice Capsey finishes it in style, cutting powerfully through point for four more.

She finishes unbeaten on 74 from 51 balls having led the way in a dominant England chase.

Freya Kemp impressed, too, with 31 from 20, in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 64 from 35 balls.

New Zealand haven't really had any answers to Alice Capsey. She's been clinical at the top of the order.

    Sumptuous!

Scores are level as Alice Capsey smokes a drive through the covers for four.

It's been a brilliant batting performance from England. The batting is actually what had been giving me the most fear going into this World Cup.

Four singles complete the over and Melie Kerr's spell.

England are five runs away from an impressive win to start this T20 series.

With that rain coming down it's so hard to grip the ball as a spinner, let alone a leg spinner.

    Super shot from Freya Kemp.

She skips down and drives straight back past Melie Kerr- through the White Ferns' skipper's legs, in fact - for four.

It's down to single figures required.

    Gorgeous shot!

Freya Kemp uses those long levers as she reaches the ball wide of off and drives elegantly through extra cover for four.

It's 11 from Sophie Devine's over. England are 13 runs from victory.

It's raining pretty steadily now so they'll want this done quickly.

A perfect hit from Alice Capsey, doesn't try to over-hit and it absolutely flies with the wind.

What a lovely way to finish the over. The run-rate is now below fives, before the over it was around seven and a half. That's where games can be won and lost in a T20, an expensive over here and there.

    Six more for Alice Capsey!

On a length from Jess Kerr and Capsey just whips it over mid-wicket - that's a big hit but she's made it looks simple.

And again! Not quite so effortless this time but it's the same result! Capsey powers this one a littler square and England are cruising now.
