Surely Burns has to go. What a disastrous decision to put Yorkshire in. Then he gets out cheaply again. Dreadful.

    Paul, Berrynarbor

Things may not be going Surrey's way currently, but it's a hard judgment on a captain that led them to three successive titles. How does the saying go? 'To err is human, to forgive divine'.

    Cox b Cook 20 (Essex 293 v Leics 333 & 60)

And that, as they say, is that.

Sam Cook cuts one back off the pitch to clean up Ben Cox and bring Leicestershire's second innings to an end in only the 28th over.

Essex will need 101 to win when they return after lunch - but it might not necessarily be plain sailing, these are very much bowler-friendly conditions today.

Cook and Shane Snater finish with four wickets each, backed up by two from Jamie Porter. Just the three bowlers needed.

  5. Bamber leads Bears counter-attackpublished at 13:31 BST

    Warwickshire 252 v Glamorgan 360 & 12-0 - lunch

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM commentator

Warwickshire counter-attacked their way out of an awkward position this morning, moving past the follow-on target in a breezy session of batting that realised 129 runs at six an over.

The catalyst for it was Ethan Bamber, called into to the action in the third over of the day after Beau Webster had edged low to first slip.

It quickly became clear that Glamorgan had a leg-theory plan for Bamber, who decided to take it on, pulling Ryan Hadley off the top edge for four, and Tom Norton just over the short boundary.

His pulse-rate further quickened by some adventurous running, he followed up with hits into the pavilion off Mason Crane and Zain ul-Hassan. By the time he perished trying to take Ben Kellaway over long-on, the follow-on had been saved.

Jordan Thompson was more selective at first, but picked up speed after Bamber’s dismissal to reach his first 50 for his new county before becoming one of Norton’s four victims.

Ul-Hassan and Asa Tribe, both on pairs, survived six awkward overs before lunch, but dark clouds around Edgbaston may mean the former has to stay cool on zero for a while yet.

Has anyone told the Leics. players that matches are 4 days & not 2? Pathetic again!!

    Paul, Chichester (formerly Leicester)

The best thing about England's poor management is Cook and Cox (when fit and not at IPL) can play for Essex. Keeping picking Robinson please England.

    Essex 293 v Leics 333 & 51-9

We have an extended session at Chelmsford because Leicestershire are nine down and Ben Cox punches Jamie Porter away for four to push the total past 50.

As crumbs of comfort go, it's not much of one - but we can offer another, their score is better than Leicestershire's 34 all out against Essex at Southend in 2011..

  9. Lunch at Lord'spublished at 13:19 BST

    Middlesex 177 & 97-3 v Derbyshire 376

A tough morning for Middlesex, who have added 84 runs in 33 overs in the face of some accurate seam bowling by Derbyshire.

Rory Haydon was rewarded dfor a fine spell with the wicket of Ben Geddes, and Ben Aitchison then had Max Holden lbw for 22.

Leus du Plooy, though, is just one run short of 50 at the interval, with Caleb Falconer on eight. The home side lead by 102.

  10. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:17 BST

    Warks 252 v Glam 360 & 12-0

A fine half-century from Jordan Thompson and a swashbuckling 46 from Ethan Bamber helped Warwickshire avoid the follow-on.

They put on 79 quick runs for the eighth wicket after the hosts had slumped to 141-7, still 70 short of the follow-on mark.

Glamorgan openers Asa Tribe and Zain ul-Hassan then survived a tricky six-over examination before lunch as the visitors go to lunch with a healthy 120-run lead.

The hover cover is out, but just in case at the moment.

What a session it has been for Yorkshire!

A superb bowling attack - spearheaded by all-rounder George Hill who has four wickets so far - puts the White Rose in total control.

Rory Burns had no answer to a ball that squirted up on him from Jhye Richardson and since then Yorkshire have ripped through the Surrey batters.

Dan Lawrence was superbly caught by Adam Lyth off the bowling of Matthew Revis before Hill claimed two in two, dismissing Adam Thomas with a ripper of a delivery before Jordan Clark played on for a first ball duck.

Sean Abbott survived Hill's hat-trick ball but Surrey will do well to avoid the follow-on - Yorkshire have been superb on day three so far.

A very good session for Lancashire comes to a close.

The Red Rose have settled well since losing two early wickets with Harry Singh 32 not out and Keaton Jennings two runs short of another half-century.

The weather has remained bright over Southport and the hosts are now just 145 runs behind Worcestershire's first-innings total with eight wickets still in hand.

  13. Lunch at Bristolpublished at 13:13 BST

    Gloucs 154 & 101-5 v Northants 127

The last over of the session will be bowled by occasional off spinner Nathan McSweeney.

Not much turn but tidy and James Bracey defends.

The last ball of the over is a touch wider and chopped to backward point for one.

That's lunch and Gloucestershire lead by 128. Quite the recovery after slipping to 31-5 on a tough surface this morning.

  14. Lunch at the Utilita Bowlpublished at 13:13 BST

    Hants 214 v Notts 206-7

Nottinghamshire resumed on 124-3 this morning and eyeng a first innings lead before lunch.

But Hamopshire have responded well on a green bowler-friendly pitch, with Kyle Abbott and Delano Potgieter reducing the visitors from 145-3 to 147-6.

Sonny Baker also chipped in with a wicket, but Liam Patterson-White has looked assured to go to lunch unbeaten on 38.

He has shared an unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 43 as Nottinghamshire lunch just eight runs in deficit.

  15. Postpublished at 13:11 BST

    Gloucs 154 & 100-5 v Northants 127

Now we are going to see some leg spin from Calvin Harrison.

His first ball is wide and cut through backward point by James Bracey for four.

The next ball is much better, drawing Bracey forward and getting an edge.

The ball zips past lone slip fielder Ricardo Vasconcelos and through to deep third for four.

One more run is cut to deep backward point for one to bring up the innings 100 in 41 overs.

Time for one more before lunch.

  16. Postpublished at 13:09 BST

    Yorkshire 486 v Surrey 98-7

George Hill has to wait an over to bowl his hat-trick ball to Sean Abbott who manages to cut away for a single to get off the mark.

The last first-class hat-trick for a Yorkshire player was Matthew Hoggard back in 2009, and that record remains for now, but Hill gets a huge applause from the crowd as well as Jonny Bairstow, the four slips and leg slip that swarm around Abbott.

Terrific bowling display this morning from Hill - 4-11.

    Patel b Snater 0 (Essex 293 v Leics 333 & 47-9)

Limp stroke by Ajaz Patel who is bowled off the inside edge by Shane Snater. The umpires must have back ache from picking up flattened stumps in the last few overs.

    Warks 252 v Glam 360 & 7-0

Asa Tribe gets the scoreboard ticking with a miscued drive which evades the fielder and goes for four.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby is not a happy bunny.

A neat clip off his pads brings three more for the Glamorgan opener.

  19. 200 up for Nottinghamshirepublished at 13:06 BST

    Hants 214 v Notts 202-7

Felix Organ drops one short and Liam Patterson-White takes advantage cutting for four to move to 37 and bring up the 200 for Notts.

They move within 12 runs of the hosts' first innings total.

This has been a good recovery from the visitors after those four quick wickets.

We can barely keep up with this.

Ben Mike tries to come down the wicket and drive Jamie Porter through the off-side but loses his leg stump.

Not the ideal shot given the circumstances.
