England captain Charlie Dean: "Amazing go chase a high total like that down. The way we did it was credit to the girls. We probably could have been tighter with the ball, to be honest, but to restrict them and then put a performance like that was brilliant."

On whether England need to improve their fielding: "100%. I guess we know the outfields at Leicester and Derby can be a little bit tricky. It's just making sure our processes are consistent and we are attacking the ball, to make positive impacts throughout the game. I guess I can't fault the girls for that because it wasn't for lack of trying. But we can definitely sharpen up in the field and with the ball."

On the approach of Maia Bouchier and Sophia Dunkley at the start of the chase: "Trying to take on that powerplay at the start feels like a blueprint on how to bat in 50-over cricket and they did it remarkably. Not slowing down after that powerplay and extend that partnership was great. For Maia Bouchier to get a hundred was exceptional and then Freya Kempt at the end as well. They all did a brilliant job."

Ireland skipper Gaby Lewis, asked how she sums up the performance: "Jeez that's a big question. The way they attacked that powerplay put our bowlers under the pump and we struggled to build pressure. There are definitely positives with the bat. We are looking for that full performance which will hopefully come."

On her side's batting performance, Lewis said: "We were disappointed in the West Indies series. To bounce back and work on that, we were happy to see. The way Rebecca [Stokell] played was outstanding. We talk a lot about bravery and she showed that."

On their struggles with the ball and in the field: "It is not through lack of trying. It is about executing our skills under pressure."

Player of the match, Maia Bouchier: "Obviously very happy to get that big score. We talked in the dressing room about being confident in the first 10 and as a team we played so well and took the pressure off at the end.

"One thing I've been working on is talking about the process, getting those big scores and talking to Lottie [Charlotte Edwards] about what I can do. How I could go about it, be proactive at the start of my innings. That really helped me coming into this game.

"Going into this series I've felt confident which is helpful. Domestic cricket is important, especially at the end of the summer, to help you get back into that mindset as we play a lot of T20 cricket."

Requiring their record ODI chase, England were ruthless up against some tame bowling.

Sophia Dunkley and Maia Bouchier put on 143 for the first wicket and Bouchier went on to score her second ODI century.

She ended up falling for 104, but that only allowed Freya Kemp to come in and have some fun in biffing 36 from 22 balls. Alice Capsey finished a composed 41 not out.

I do think Ireland can take some positives. Their batting was brilliant and even the fielding and bowling there were bits of positives. Charlotte Edwards meanwhile will be super pleased with how Sophia Dunkley and Maia Bouchier have stepped into their roles. They are now senior batters in this England team.

It looks one-sided in the end but Ireland did well to get to the score they did. Gaby Lewis scored 69, Amy Hunt 62 and Rebecca Stokell an impressive 54 not out at the back end.

The batting was the positive for them today.

The bottom line is it was a really good pitch and 280 was par for Ireland. The reality is their bowling is not strong enough and it will continue to be that way in the rest of the series.

The day that started with Alice Capsey taking a fine catch on her debut as England's wicketkeeper. It ends with her hitting the winning runs.
